I’m a bit surprised Kaori lost.. not to take away from Ami.. she was phenomenal but there is a biiiig difference in Kaori skating and presentation. And it’s unfortunate pcs isn’t awarded high enough to reflect that.

Well, it's probably one of the more clear-cut reasons I've seen in awhile. She lost by 2.85 points. Her Triple Lutz got an unclear (!) edge call in both the short and long costing her points in GOE. Without those calls, we'd have a different gold medalist. She's had this edge issue with the Lutz for years and she knows it. She's mentioned it. Sometimes she gets it clear and sometimes she doesn't. This time she got it unclear twice at the same event. She may be a beautiful skater but precise execution can still trip up the best of them.

The USFSA considers the overall body of work from the 2025 and 2026 seasons for skaters in their Olympic selection criteria. Skaters vying for an Olympic berth will want to medal on the Grand Prix Series to boost their international resume, reputation and momentum heading toward the Olympics. Earning a spot at the Grand Prix Final really boosts a skater’s opportunity of making the Olympic team and Isabeau’s chances are now in serious jeopardy. It’s also important to compare how they are all scoring internationally in TES and PCS. Levito not having her best skate in the FS and not medaling here possibly gives Tennell and Everhardt an opportunity to outscore or outplace her in an upcoming Grand Prix event if they skate their bests. The real test will be at Skate Canada in 2 weeks when all 3 go up against each other head to head. Talk about a competition within a competition! With all this talk about “playing it safe” around Levito, now is not the time to do that when you have other competitors in your county nipping at your heels, especially when you are not even considered #1 or #2 in your home nation.

Ami Nakai - landing 3axel is great, but I am very careful in this in skater's teenage age, let's wait for her jumping arsenal till she will be grown-up. Besides that very very good skating skills, choreography, strong presentation in both SP and LP. She reminds me softer version of Rika Kihira.

We needn't wait to see this long. All that matters for her future is how she skates in February 2026. If she gets an Olympic medal, she might insert herself into Sakomoto to Shimada succession. More likely, she would vie with Chiba and any number of teens for the second and third girl spot in Japan. The next quad in Japan will be all about Shimada + teenagers

Wow such quality Sarah versus Isabeau versus Bradie. The one thing that favours Isabeau is she has come secnd and fourth at worlds. She comes through when it counts. I appreciate Bradie's tenancity.. She won't back down. I don't think Ziegler is in contention. She might have been two years ago before injuries. Somehow I think Alyssa and Amber are pretty safe but you never know ice is slippery. Isabeau wasn't at her best but she still was very solid and respectable. But unless Isabeau wins her next event making the GP final is unlikely. (Ami; Kaori, Alyssa, Amber, Mona and another Japanese, Korean or Gubanova or Hendrix?

I agree with you but also this is not a first time we see this happening, Ilya for example? High tech goes with high pcs.
It is not something new and I'm tired of thinking about it.

Someone jumping triples can score higher on PCS than someone jumping quads.

Isabeau’s score of 212 would have won been 1st or 2nd at every GP event last season plus the Final. I understand scoring is different from event to event, but the real question is whether USFSA considers podium placement rather than point total more important.

I love Kaori, but should her PCS really be that much higher than the other top women in this competition? A couple of points maybe but 5-6? Not IMO.

Isabeau did fine. The team from last year will be the team this year unless one of them does terrible. She did well. Of course Kaori is way overscored, what else is new? But that advantage mysteriously mostly goes away against Americans in Championship events. Lol

Isabeau also has an incredible record of strong programs. Her scores have been going up this season. I love many of the American women, but I think Isabeau remains a front runner for an Olympic slot.

I think Rion’s score was too high - under on the quad and a pop, and yet she still scores higher than Isabeau? Isabeau should have placed above her. Overall I thought the Japanese GOEs and components were overscored.
