2025 Skate America Women's Free Skate

The funniest thing here is that there is one single judge who had Rinka first in the Free Skate and it's... the US judge. While Rinka's lowest score and placement (5th) was given by the.... Japanese judge.

I know why (Japan is trying very hard not to complicate their Olympic selection process while it's in US best interest to have Kaori's #1 status in Japan questioned) but it's still hilarious. You can really only get to see these plays within the Grand Prix circuit rather than the ISU Championships.

I think Japan plays both sides quite well though. The lowest scores always get thrown out so if the second lowest score is pretty good, they actually bump up their skaters' final score. But at the same time it's also how they send a message to their own skaters: we have a team in mind and while good for you for collecting medals, please please please stay in line and don't give us a headache.

IMHO Lara Naki Gutman deserved bronze.

I was happy to see Gubanova finally to be connected with her skating but it was Lara who deserved bronze, not Gubanova.
I liked Lara's program a lot more. But, she popped a jump. I think we all tend to confuse our personal preferences for what" should" happen. I wanted Lara to medal and she would have without that pop so in the end the result is on her.

You are absolutely correct👋! I stay corrected ( indulged myself to let emotions to take over :cry3: ) Hope Lara will be better at Olympics

I was super impressed with Rinka's triple axel triple toe but she doees stalk those biggerr jumps so the pcs are going to take a beating. Liu did a fine perfrmance here she might need to be a bit more explosive with her jumps if she can Think for Rochette Osmond - more amplitude to get some more GOEs. At this point I wonder if she will go back to Lady Gag for the free. This seems to be working. I reviewed the fs of Gubanova and Lara. I might have the Italian third here. Internationally other than 4ccs we may have seen the end of Wakaba. I really liked the spunk of Sarr but it is probably too little too late. She is going to pairs and I wish her luck but I am not sure how easy the transition will be.

jumps and this

Yes, she had 4 underrotations along with several q's, not to mention the underrotation they missed on the lutz in the short program.
I don’t like Alyssa’s skating either and her jumps are terrible. The lack of calls on her jumps and her generous scores piss me off. Her carefree attitude annoys me at times, especially when points are just handed to her. Girl, work on your jumps and your skating skills.

I think the explanation for the final placements is pretty simple.

The top ladies had good performances, but none of them were perfect. One of them had to win, so one of them did.

From a fan perspective, does it really matter? Are any of you going to "favorite" any of these performances so you can watch them over and over? Of course not, because there are much better examples of these programs skated elsewhere if you're that into them.

Side note: I hope Alysa gets that Gaga free skate polished up or revamped or whatever and ready to go, because this Donna Summer program has had its moment. For me, it seems stale now.

No, she didn't. This was strict judging panel and she only had 2.
They were not strict with Liu at all. She got away with obvious unders while Rinka got called with some phantom calls. She has been grossly over scored since the end of last season because of the Olympics coming up. It's so obvious, that it is sickening that people continue to pretend like the scoring is fair just so they can live in fairytale land and pretend this is a legitimate sport and ignore the very obvious corruption and politics. Pathetic.

Does anyone know whether Kurakova is training her iconic -Eu-3F combo still? She didn't go for it in the FS and it's been a while since I last saw her nailing it and her jumps unfortunately altogether are leaving her, especially triple lutz isn't good. She came 4th at one European Championships and then I thought that the medal is likely happening sooner or later but then she regressed. I like a lot her artistry though and I must say I enjoy the programs for this season more than than for the previous one.

If I were as upset about this as you are, I think I'd storm off in a huff and not watch the sport or post on message boards any more. I mean who would continue to support such a racket as you describe.

Rinka Watanbe was an overscored villain in China. In US she's the underscored victim.

... I have whiplash.

Oh yes i'm sure the international judges who judge these GP's give a hoot that Alysa wins or goes to the Olympics.

The people complaining are some of the same people who shove metaphorical knives into the backs of skaters on a regular basis.

What's next - irrational individuals appointing themselves final arbiters of the Super Bowl result? "That pass didn't really make it into the receiver's hands. IT DID NOT HAPPEN. The Super Bowl is rigged."

Who even cares about a fanbase? This is a sport. Here is the only thing that matters - her results:

She should thank her lucky stars she even made the podium.

Are you serious - who cares? Petty nonsense. You aren't even discussing skating.

As one of a handful of people who passed a peer pressure test in a college psych study and 95% flunked it, you can imagine what I think of your 90% outrage claim . I couldn't care less what a bunch of online wackos/bots think on YouTube. That's why I passed the test.

I do not agree. And the answer is simple: My GOE for skaters match the judges. It doesn't matter if it's Watanabe or Yuzu Hanyu. I even gave my own fav the axe on one of his jumps at Skate Canada years ago because he deserved negative GOE for his jump. I was well aware he had a problem with his ankle, but that did not sway my decision on his execution score. Nor should it have. Yes, that was Yuzu.

I think your conspirataorial thinking needs to be abandoned and adopt something that is reasonable.

No, it's just a case of delusional fans who engage in conspiracy theories on a regular basis.

OMG! LOOK AT THAT JUMP! The judges are on the take!

If those are the best arguments you have, I feel very sorry for you and your caretaker.
