2025 -26 Grand Prix Final Pairs Free Skate

germans should be second at least with that free, but they needed a mistake from italians, unfortunately

Very strong event, the Top 3 and the Hungarians were great. That pop by Minerva cost the Germans the gold, they were flawless in the free.

I love Ryku and Ryuichi but I am not sure they deserved the win here with several minor jumping errors in their programs when the Italians had none. Yes, their lifts were better, but I am not sure they were that much better for the big GOE difference.

Damn that 1Salchow in the SP for Hase/Volodin; otherwise, they would have won! 😡

Another win for M/K where neither their SP nor FS was clean; a real shame they are the only pairs team in the world that can get by with not skating clean.

I expected C/M to drop in the FS standings; their lyrical, snoozy FS programs do not highlight their strengths. When are they going to learn that it is bold, fiery pieces like their SPs from this season and last season that actually make their skating exciting and make them interesting characters to watch.

Also, M/B ahead of P/S is not what I have seen, though I like the finale of their program.

japanese are able to have URs, messy/ugly landings, shaky combo and they win. Until they fall, they still win. Disgusting

Yeah, honestly, Italians should send Hase a gift basket, but yes, I agree, two clean skates had to beat H/V. Otherwise it would have been unfair.

Now, what was actually unfair is M/K keeping gold. But, Japan...

My order would be: Italians, Germans, Japanese, Hungarians, Georgians, Canadians

Is it time for Deanna and Max to bring back their 2024 season programs in time for the Olympics? Those were their best set of programs in their career. Their last 2 events have been really rough and one has to wonder if these Olympic programs have bad mojo around them.

Maria and Sasha looked like they were having to work harder in the FS here than in the SP. They were fighting all the way and many of the elements did not look easy for them, but their greatest strength is that they don’t make major mistakes. Alas, I believe it’s harder for them to fully succeed into the medal standings due to the politics of the sport; Hungary is not a figure skating powerhouse and their federation doesn’t have the power or influence of Japan or USA, etc.

I am thrilled for their upward trajectory in the sense that they could not ask for better training mates than Hase/Volodin and the team of coaches, choreographers and trainers surrounding them is an excellent camp that can really help them continue to improve and further polish their craft. Their ceiling is very high!

How in the world did M/B with all of their errors place above P/S in the FS here? Ugh, I don’t understand these results!

My FS placements:
1. H/V
2. C/M
3. P/S
4. M/K
5. M/B
6. S-D/D

C/M should have won this event overall! I realize the Japanese federation has so much power and influence, but clean elements and performance quality should matter and M/K did not produce that here in either program. Why are they winning??

I expected M/K to win no matter what so not going to waste my energy on complaining about the scores. They are OGM already full stop.
What really kills me is M/B PCS - 67.79 for a mediocre program, poor lines and no refinement whatsoever?
Do judges really value speed over everything else?

Just started watching the Replay. That was quite the struggle bus for Deanna and Max. 😥 Happy for Minerva and Nikita.

So in the short program, H/V gave away the silver, if not the gold. On the other hand (hypothesis), a good score in the preliminary round might not have led to a comparable performance in the free skate.

Minerva Hase: “We had been hoping for a flawless free skate all season. Last year, it was a little easier for us to skate the free skate without mistakes, and this year we had many good short programs, but there were always mistakes in the free skate. After the skate, we were both just happy that we finally had ourselves under control. It was a really good skate, and we scored well.”

The short program was successful, except for the moment when Minerva abandoned the routine she had practiced hundreds of times and “visibly started thinking” (I was almost certain that this habit was a thing of the past, which made the question interesting as to how “Minerva, the psychology student” sees it herself). I hope for both of them that this moment of awakening will not only stay with them for the rest of the short program and the free skate, but also remain in their memory as a “lesson” with a long-lasting effect. In the free skate today, we may have seen the initial spark of this change – with by far the best performance of the competition and the highest free skate score of her career. And it must be said that, despite some indisputably low program components (so that they don't run too far ahead of the domestic skaters, let's not kid ourselves...)

My personal “phantom pain” over “Vivaldi” isn't over yet, but today I got up from my chair and joined in the standing ovation from the Japanese (!) home crowd... 🫶

I fell asleep. Thought the Italians would win. It wasn't RikuRyu's day - hope they can get their %&$# together before the Olympics. Concerned about Deanna and Max, they seem to be struggling in ways I've never seen before.
