2026 Canadian Nationals : Women's Long Program

That is a bit harsh. Gabby was overscored, and Minsol has been marked more strictly. I am glad she is still on the podium. Please release her for Junior Worlds, Korea...

So it's Maddie for the Olympic spot, I imagine. Her free skate made me feel better about that. She cannot have such a catastrophic mistake in the SP though. She does have the harder triple triple though, so that's a plus.

So happy to have Minsol back ❤️ I'm guessing her PCS will be below Maddie and Gabby, but how will her TES hold up?

Well Minsol Kwon was lovely, but it's a little odd to watch someone for whom it's basically an exhibition compared to other women for whom there is so much on the line.

I'd be curious to hear from someone in the arena about her speed. I thought she looked quite slow at times, especially through some of the footwork.
Yes, I thought the same about her speed, especially in the first half, ironically. I hope she can maintain this as she grows. My experience with a Korean skaters is that their last few Superstars have had their jumping ability, particularly the ability to rotate cleanly, significantly affected by growth and body changes.

There is definitely some heavy engineering going on with the scores

Granted, the judges are always generous with Gabby for whatever reason, but even so

They called everything for Minsol, which is justified, to be fair, but maybe not when they ignored/were more lenient with some other technical issues for other skaters 🤔
Yes, the calls for Minsol were justified. My issue is that they were lenient with others. They should have been treated the same.

Gabby popped two jumps.
Maddie popped one.

That's the difference here.

They gave higher PCS to Maddie which I am not so sure about. I think Gabby's speed, ice coverage and flair are at least equal to Maddie's presentation.

Minsol lost 5-6 points with calls. Her PCS is still good considering she is not selling her skating as much as some of the other skaters.

I think the judging was very fair here. They didn't protect anyone (SMD, Kaiya or Uliana) as you can see from how well the juniors did here (Megan, Lulu and Reese in position 4-5-6)

My prediction score is screwed but I think this was a fabulous event

Final thoughts 10 yes, 10 skaters have surpassed the domestic benchmark. That will be a lot of people to send out Skate Canada :)

Honest question : have you seen Gabby skate live ? I was never a fan until I saw her live. She's spectacular. It made me at ease with the scores she gets. At the same time here, she didn't get higher PCS than Maddie who is much slower and blander though has qualities of her own in terms of presentation.

how much did that mess up my predictions...

not so good - but I know the ladies better and how they react under pressure now

I'm sad for Gabby, she doesn't want to finish her career with a sitting down to the Olympic Games, we could see in the kiss & cry, how much this means for her the Olympic. I don't know if she would want to end her career here or to continue to 4CC. She is a fighter and I will always remember her as a fighter and a fierce competitor when she is healthy.

But you have to take into consideration the speed and Power of Gabby, which was light years ahead. Absolute light years. Her jumps also had so much more height, and her expression fit her program much more. Minsol had a pleasant smile throughout most of her program which was a tango. She was fantastic, don't get me wrong, and she skated exactly how someone her age should - but skating skills and element quality is something she still needs to work on. Still, I agree, she is the future, as long as she can handle the puberty monster.

The crazy thing is, Gabrielle (who is not and has never been a favorite) was at the Olympics in 2014 as a 16 year old - go and watch the level of her skating. I never really appreciated it at the time, but she really was quite remarkable in terms of her power and technique.

So happy for my heart’s choice, Megan. I predicted her as 6th and there she is in a well-deserved 4th. So pleased with Lulu’s return to form and so absolutely pleased that Reese is getting the free programme under control. Nice flip and lutz.

Given that Megan and Lulu didn’t have international assignments this year, do they have Jr world minimums? I would send those 3 plus Victoria out to a Junior B before deciding who goes. See how they are perceived internationally.

So, Lulu and Megan both had a higher base value than Madeline, by a couple points. Can someone give me a quick rundown on why that's the case? I just find it surprising that Madeline was only a couple points ahead of mMegan, despite being essentially clean.

Maddie popped her 2a and has a V on a spin.

Gabby was so close!!
@4everchan we called it about the lutz toe combo!!
I actually disagree with the PCS scores!!
Gabby had better skating skills and presentation. I agree with the overall result. But, it should have been much closer. Maddie should have had lower PCS and Gabby should have had higher PCS

Olympics: Maddie 👏

National Team: Maddie, Gabby and Minsol (😍)

4CC: Gabby, Fee Ann ( 👏), SMD
I will scream if I see Fee Ann here; She proved she is one of our top 4 ladies at both Challenge and here;
(Kaiya already got two international events and Uliana didn’t do as well)

JWC: Megan (If Minsol can’t go)
The Juniors finished 3rd-6th
Victoria could be selected. But, I remember her Challenge event wasn’t that good compared to Megan

Novice (international): Lia Cho (😍) plus three to five other skaters from top six from the upcoming Skate Trophy competition 😜

National Team: Maddie, Gabby and Minsol (😍)
It'll be them, plus whoever is assigned a Grand Prix. I can see SMD getting one based on her Warsaw Cup SB. Maybe Kaiya too, 178 is the third highest SB, plus if Fee Ann can get a good one at 4CC assuming she is assigned.

Love Minsol - she is a great addition for Canada. I think the scoring is right. She is the future - but it will make her work on the areas she needs.
I agree. Minsol has clear edge problems with lutz. In SP, she should replace with 3Lo and only have one lutz in free skate like what Evgenia M used to do. She also has to fix her under rotations.
