Any news on Ivan Popov...
Smirnova took a lot of her skaters to Tashkent recently for interclub competition, this one: https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/t...ion-cup-of-the-strongest.102418/#post-3512723

Ivan from Uzbekistan didn't compete, but I am holding my breath that this means Smirnova works Uzbek connection and is securing training venue or something in Tashkent (?). I searched the net and her group still advertises as affiliated with Odintzovo. Unfortunately, both Smirnova and Popov have really common names and surnames, so the information capture is difficult. That's all I could figure our so far. If they applied for transfer again, we might know by summer. It's really worrisome not to know anything, but I'm cheering for the group's success and hopefully we'll see them competing again. Somewhere.

I'm way behind on all Nats stuff sadly, will try and catch-up, but I just wanted to post this video here because it shows one of the main things why I love Russian Men skating. It's not just about the skating, which in itself is pretty awesome, but it's about the skaters themselves. So many brilliant, warm personalities, and such a friendly, supportive vibe between them. It's remarkable they manage to keep this very high level, high stakes, and yet very human competition among themselves. Quite unusual I would say for elite competitive sports.

In here, Makar's understated support for Roma after his failed SP 😍 And the exchange between Mark and Vlad, supporting each other after their own mistakes in the SP too 🥰 "We're in a fierce fight right now, separated only by hundredths" they say, and then they laugh like the fierce rivals they are 🤣 How can you possibly not love these guys? 😉

Dmitri Aliev on his social media:

Dear friends, fans and spectators of figure skating! I have prepared entertaining programs for you this season. I worked on them with love and a great desire to please you. But... sometimes life makes its own adjustments.... Unfortunately, at the moment, I do not have the right and opportunity to go on the ice. I am currently undergoing therapy. And I don't have a medical permit to train. Life forced me to make a stop…But all the challenges in life come to us for a reason. They make us define who we really are. And I wish the guys a good beginning of the season and smooth ice at Test Skates in St. Petersburg. Take care of yourself and see you later!❤️
Update:
Aliev returned to shows (so he's allowed to skate again, at least).

Guys, I'm leaving this question here: can anyone update on what's the situation with Gumennik SP's music rights for Feb 10th event?

Here is what Google generates for me.

Petr Gumennik is facing music rights issues shortly before the 2026 Winter Olympics primarily because of heightened, strict enforcement of copyright regulations for the Olympics compared to other competitions. Additionally, reports indicate that for his chosen music (specifically Perfume: The Story of a Murderer), the copyright holders actively revoked permission specifically for the Russian athlete.

Here is a breakdown of why this is happening now:
Olympic-Specific Licensing: The Olympics have different, more stringent copyright rules than typical ISU Grand Prix or national events. Music cleared for the Russian Grand Prix in Moscow or Omsk in late 2025 does not automatically meet the stricter broadcast/licensing requirements of the IOC.
Targeted Restrictions: According to reports in February 2026, copyright holders specifically revoked the rights for Gumennik to use the music from Perfume: The Story of a Murderer for the Olympic Games.
"Dune" Also Blocked: When attempting to switch back to his previous season's short program music (Dune), he was informed that it was also blocked for similar reasons.
Increased Legal Scrutiny: Following lawsuits regarding unauthorized music use by American skaters in the 2022 Olympics, governing bodies have increased efforts to ensure compliance, causing last-minute issues for several skaters, not just Gumennik

And, the latest bit:

Earlier, a source told TASS that the 23-year-old athlete might perform at the Olympics with last year's short program due to issues obtaining permission to use music from the film ‘Perfume: The Story of a Murderer’. Gumennik will now perform to Edgar Hakobyan’s Waltz 1805.

Thanks for the confirmation. Has he ever skated to his new music selection before?
No. He couldn't use his old programs because he wouldn't have had time to clear rights.

As I understand it, he will be skating with the current season's program but with different music.

Yes, i understand that there was a problem with rights. So, they will be re-laying the old program to different music he's unfamiliar with. Fingers crossed he doesn't get confused.
