Probably. It also depends on how much Gogolev and Gumennik were underscored. Gumennik lost enough on TES for it to make difference between silver and 6th. Gogolev didn't loose basically anything, but his PCSs were low -- gorgeous skate though. But, well, obviously they propped Kagiyama.
I wouldn't say Gumennik and Gogolev were underscored, lol. Jun deserves to be ahead of both because he's the better overall skater.

I do think Yuma probably deserved to be behind Shun again, though.

CBC online got caught with their boot laces undone. They immediately had a "Breaking" news story about the results of the men's event, but the caption for the big picture of Malinin said he'd won gold in both the individual and team events. Written in advance, it appears. I'm sure they'll correct it quickly.

Not as many as Lorine Schild.

Lorine Schild be like

Mikhail's skating is what it is. Not well,-round is an understatement. He probably has one of the worst programs and worst skating skills in competition. But, looking at the scoring system, he is the rightful winner. I don't see how anyone disputes his win..
I see what you are saying. Technically his elements are worth so much and pcs aren't such a factor.
Gonna go join Hanyu fan screaming on twitter now "YUZURU HANYU IS GOAT YUZURU HANYU IS GOAT"
Not very nice. This is the wrong time. Ilia is young and to be crushed like this. Jason Brown is at home crying what if... a medal was not impossible that darn unknown Canadian almost won the bronze medal and maybe deserved it. Who would hae thought.

I'm not disputing the result, but getting in the mid 8s in PCS for that program, which had quads and little else, is a joke.
I get what you're saying, but there isn't really that much "program" these days when you consider how little time is spent not doing footwork, spins, or setting up jumps. That's true for all the men, and the judges like what Ilya does between those technical elements such that the mistakes don't impact those scores too much apparently.

I know that's nothing like this AT ALL but I do wonder. When I was in high school I took the ACT three times (was actually scheduled for a 4th but decided to stop the madness).

There was a certain score I was looking for. The third time, I think my second section was the reading comprehension. And I completely KILLED it, and I KNEW it! When you're taking a 4 hour exam you have to be completely stoic and deliberate.

But I thought to myself, OMG I'm finally gonna do it!

So yeah. I ended up getting a perfect score (36) on that section just like I knew. But the math section which was right afterward was my lowest of the three times I took the test because my moment of joy broke the concentration needed to then do my best on my most difficult subject.

In the end, I got the same total exam score, for a third time which was short of my pretty extreme goal.

I wonder if Ilia knew, especially with all of the mistakes made by the others evidenced by their scores, that he HAD this. Like easy peasy. And despite himself, in his mind maybe allowed himself to celebrate early ? It seems like with these sports all it takes is a tiny lapse in mindfulness to screw everything up.
We know Ilia has a habit of watching his rivals going right before him. Before we used to say it's proof that he has great mental but idk, perhaps today of all days, if he did watch the final group, it wasn't the best decision he could have made...

Delayed comment: I feel Yuma's performance was lacking, not just the jumps. I understand that his short program was excellent, but that long program contributing to a silver medal? No, not in my book.
It was lacking indeed. But by today's standard, it was Yu-nough (In the vein of Ken-ough). (y)

This is one of the craziest Olympics so far, so many expectations, so many changes, so many surprises!! I held my breath literally!!
But lets be honest:

JUST THE THOUGHT OF PERFORMING AT THESE LEVELS AND AT THE OLYMPICS WITH A UNBELIEVABLE ELEMENTS IT'S SUPER HUMAN, EVERY SINGLE SKATER DESERVE A MEDAL FOR THEIR EFFORT!! EVERYONE IS HUMAN, THE PRESSURE WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!
I ADMIRE YOU ILIA, NO MATTER WHAT, I DON'T CARE ABOUT EXPECTATIONS I JUST KNOW THE JOURNEY YOU CAME SO FAR AND IT'S REALLY ALREADY EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!
MIKHAIL, WHAT YOU DID!! YOUR DREAM, THE DREAM OF A NATION COME TRUE, WITH SO MANY STRUGGLES YOU STILL FOUGHT FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVED IN!!!!
SHUN, SEEING YOUR TEARS WAS A INCREDIBLE JOY!! WHAT A CHARACTER!!!
YUMA YOU DID THE BEST YOU COULD AND THE SKATING PATH PAID OFF!!!

I LOVE EVERYONE OF YOU

It's a sport and stuff happens.

I'm sure Ilia will learn from all this. But if people were to bring Hanyu up - they'd rightly say that the mentality of going 2x OGM is rather strong.

Not that I felt Hanyu's first OGM was anything to write home about either though.

British media was not fair to Fear/Gibson. They were talking like they were possible gold medal contenders when they were always an outside shot for podium
They were excited because of them being world and GPF medallists. They also like to mention T&D at every opportunity
I think a lot of people on here expected them to win bronze
