I'd love to talk to those judges who gave Ilia 9.75 for skating skills, I really want to understand what do they see I can't see. I'd also love to hear uncensored version of Patrick Chan's opinion.

I cannot speak for Patrick. And I cannot write how I feel about anything above 9 in PCS for Ilia : it would be against the rules.

I think Ilia is well-deserving every time he's won a world title. He doesn't need such high scores and he doesn't deserve them. It's unfair to a skater like Yuma.

I am losing the top spot for the big medal of the year (senior events overall ) with my last minute change of putting Adam on the podium . and my unfortunate choices (Kao)....(and well Saulius in dance)... but I hope my SP cushion is comfortable enough to finish on the podium.

Ilia Malinin. The following line means even more today. Completely appropriate:

A reference to Ariadne's golden thread given to (Theseus, I believe?) to lead him out of the maze.

Ilia's skate today is another whole level. But everything is there ... the beauty of the skating and the jumps, the passion, the joy he has in sharing!

Good for Ilia for coming back from his disappointment in Milan. Good for Yuma for finally delivering Turandot cleanly. Good for the handsome Selevbro for wildly exceeding expectations. Good for Gogolev for two very, very good programs.

Because I'm boycotting the dance event, this is it for my competition viewing this season.

Yuma finally skated Turandot the way it was intended. Bravo!

Poor Yuma all those silver medals at the Olympics and Worlds has any skater this good been so close but never won Gold at either event? His single Gold from a major championship is from 4CC.

Congrats to the top 3 - and Gogolev on a brilliant finish and back to two spots for the Canadian men.

Lovely to see Yuma end with a brilliant FS (also the skate of the night for me, but can’t argue with Ilia’s way harder tech content putting him ahead).

Thrilled for Shun too - so underrated and glad to see him shine in Milan and Prague.

Contextually that was a wonderful redemption skate for Malinin. Especially with Yuma challenging him with a 306 (and would have been higher if not for the SP waxel ). Say what you want about the GOE (I thought most were fine) and PCS (didn’t deserve a 95 to smash his 92 PB with harder content, but would have made no difference - and the judges are seemingly generous, especially to those who had not so great Olympic moments)…. he delivered.

Feels very correct though.

I know the French will probably win but Piper and Paul winning gold would really be the best way to end these Worlds!

I respect your choice. I will be viewing to support the USA teams so we can have the maximum spots and to cheer on my other favorites from many nations. Nothing is secure in the world these days, who knows if we will have a world - I am going to watch skating and soak up the marrow of skating while I can and hope that a more normal life will return.

Ouch...but yes, I think the judges might be mesmerized by Ilia's technical ability to a point where they perceive it as artistry. Which it isn't, and the judges aren't doing him any favors with the inflated PCS. They need to make Ilia EARN those scores.

Notwithstanding, Ilia seems to have grown up tremendously since the Olympics. Here's hoping it continues and will be reflected in his music choices and presentation next season.

I saw hints of that in his short program, so I'm cautiously optimistic.
