The most important first, we have threads for the new season!! :cheer: Thanks a lot @AlexBreeze !

Then, who is Aleksandr Chmil ? I've been following Russian Men skating pretty close, so I'm quite surprised there is someone who made the National team that I've never heard about before 🙂 How did he make the team without competing at Nationals or at FGP (nor even at the stages as far as I can remember)?

And also, I'm not so surprised about Lev Lazarev because at least I've heard of him (even though I don't really follow juniors 🙂), and I know he won Junior Nats , but still shouldn't he be on the junior team instead of the senior?

Chmil is Daineko's junior skater.

It's difficult to say why he was included in the senior team instead of the junior or novice team. It's possible that there were no spots available in the junior team. In fact, this happened in all disciplines (juniors were included in the senior reserve team).

You are welcome

In my opinion, he tries too hard to copy Petr Gumennik in every detail and doesn`t show his individuality.

This is totally strange, isn't it?

I checked last Junior Nats results out of curiosity and Chmil didn't compete there either. So he wouldn't qualify for the junior team either, would he?

Is he actually a novice skater? (he must have competed somewhere! 😝)
But there are only 4 skaters in the novice team, so plenty of room to put him there if that was the case. And even if not, they would put him in the junior reserve, and move others from junior to senior who actually medal at junior nats (like Lazarev perhaps).

Though I find it strange that you can move skaters randomly between categories, the funding for senior skaters must be much higher than for juniors, let alone for novice; isn't it so? I would imagine they would create additional spots in the right team if absolutely needed.

But why would they handpick Chmil, with no competitive results and no trajectory whatsoever, to move him up from the novice team (at best, let's assume he qualified for that one) to the senior? Do you know of any such cases before him?

Long post but I'm very curious about this because, well, it's one spot that was in practice taken away from a probably deserving real senior skater, but also because it's so random that there must be a pretty strong reason behind it for the Fed to go to all this trouble 🙂 For instance, I saw in the women thread that Trusova and Valieva were named to the senior team, which is unfair as they don't deserve it results-wise, they didn't even compete, but at least you can understand the political push behind it because of their name. But this in the men team is totally :wonder: 🤔

We cannot rule out the simplest explanation: a data entry error

The result giving him national team is novice nationals (the video above).

I don't know.

I remember cases of sending seniors to junior/novice team because of the senior team being too packed.

Both Chmil and Daineko say that Aleksandr was supposed to be on the junior team and they don't know what's going on.

In other news, Arseniy and Artem Fedotovs left Team Tutberidze. They consider going to Mishin. :scratch2:

Wow, Mozalev made the team. It's been a while. Ahead of Ugozhaev, Dikidzhi and Fedorov too. I hope the rule changes favor him. I assume Lazarev, if he goes senior is going to be a contender for the title unless growth/injuries happens.

Also, loving the junior team!

I had high hopes right after RusNat, and after the Grand Prix (R) final, those hopes turned into certainty.

In the federation’s document outlining the criteria for national team selection, these criteria are ranked as follows: major international competitions (only Gumennik qualified), less significant—top 6 at RusNat, and even less significant—finishing in the top 5 at the Grand Prix (R) final. Andrei finished in the top 6 at RusNat, and although he didn't make the top 5 at the Grand Prix (R) final, his performance at the national championship was the deciding factor. Ugozhaev and Fedorov finished in the top 5 at the Grand Prix (R) final, but performed very poorly at RusNat. This also proved to be a decisive factor for them. Dikidji didn`t finish in the top 6 at RusNat or the top 5 at the Grand Prix (R) final. The only criterion for his inclusion on the national team was his victory in joint competitions with Belarusian athletes, where he had no rivals. Making the main team, however, was practically impossible for him.

Thus, in Mozalev’s case, the federation simply followed its rules to the letter. RusNat is the main competition in the absence of international events. Mozalev earned the right to join the main national team at RusNat, so he will be there. And it’s nice that in this case, at least, they aren’t contradicting themselves or bending the rules.

In other news, Arseniy and Artem Fedotovs left Team Tutberidze. They consider going to Mishin. :scratch2:

This is a very unwise decision on Arseniy’s part. His parents were wrong to give in to an impulsive teenager. He complains that Tutberidze’s team didn’t pay him enough attention, but that’s a ridiculous argument. There isn’t another team that would treat him with such care. Especially not Mishin’s team, where all the attention is focused on Semenenko.

Rumor has it that Arseniy wanted to go to Arutyunyan, but his parents thought that plan was crazy.

UPD: By the way, Artem Fedotov definitely won’t be joining Mishin’s team. No decision has been made yet regarding Arseniy. Mishin hasn’t made up his mind yet. Essentially, both brothers are out in the cold.

I still think it's just a technical glitch. I hope this will be fixed soon.

I checked... ah, made Google search... and there is nothing from the purported ISU Council meeting, but it's 2 pm in Tenerife atm. I am used to waking up to the end of the day in Europe. I assume if anything happens, it will be in the next 3 hours? Fingers crossed for Lazarev!

Arseniy is at Team Mishin's training camp.

Russian juniors have received 4 quotas (one per discipline) for the first stage of the Junior Grand Prix in China.

The competitions will take place from August 20 to 22.

obrazek.png

we shall see only 1 boy, 1 girl, 1 dance team, but possibly 2 pairs according to rules for JGP entries. A country that did not participate at the previous junior worlds only gets one quota per category at two JGP stages, except pairs, where such country gets one entry at three JGP stages.

The names will be decided according to the performance at junior test skates.
