Ladies Free Skate

Apparently what's good for the goose (RUS) isn't good for the gander (USA). Gozeva had two flawed programs, but she moved up as many places as Zhang did.

And what? What's the point of your post? To tell the world about a new conspiracy theory? Russians bought all the judges of the world?

Or may be Gozeva and Leonova weren't as bad as you trying to tell? Or may be it's not obvious for every one that Leonova has worse PCS then Zhang? For me it's obvious that Zhang has no any emotions at all, she's (and her programs) actually boring and has nothing to surprise me in PCS. She has better spins and edging - and that's all. Her jumps are still terrible although she has 3-3. And she has higher basic value of her LP that's why she won LP today (you seem to forget it at all).

I was responding to a post which said that the judges penalized Zhang in the FS PCS scores because she had had such a bad SP.

I pointed out that it was unfair to carry over the SP into the FS and apply it as criteria because they are two separate segments.

I also pointed out that Gozeva had an equally bad SP and a FS with two falls and no 3z landed, yet she got ridiculously high PCS scores which enabled her to move up 8 places into the top 10, ensuring that Russia gets 3 spots for JW and two spots in every JGP event next season..

So my point was that if indeed the judges were gigging Zhang on PCS in the FS because of a subpar SP, they certainly didn't do that to Gozeva, and that was unequal treatment.

I still think both Gozeva and Leonova were given highly inflated PCS scores in the FS, especially in the PE and CH scores.

I agree! I just saw the video of Alena's LP and I can say that she was good enough and she deserves the title! She is so emotional and passionate with her skate! Alena didn't think of the medal she just did what she always do and enjoyed! I can understand that Americans are dissapointed about that but it doesn't mean that Alena didn't deserved the title, she was good in short and she was good in long program that's why she is the winner! Congrats!!!

Perhaps skating just brings out the vicious side in some people.

It's been that way online since at least I've been on skating message boards. Definitely one of the reasons I get skating 'fatigue'... and have to find another outlet to actually make me happy.

PCS are going to drop when you are in TENTH after the short program. The judges can't just pretend the short program doesn't matter. While you may not care for Leonova's skating, or think she is sloppy and isn't as good as Zhang (I agree completely), the fact of the matter is that her TWO programs were overall deemed better than Caroline's...

Look, we all wish PCS would truly be a reflection of a skater's skating skills, choreography, interpretation, etc, and they usually are. BUT, they are also there to give the judges some leeway, so that the skaters who deserve to win actually win!

I think this is a very honest post.

What I wonder is, would the ISU and the judges themselves be so truthful if you asked them about the scoring?

Would they say straight up, "yes, we gave Leonova higher PCSs than she deserved for her LP to make sure that the skater won who did the best overall?"

Ashley shaking?

I just watched the ladies award ceremony. Did anyone else notice that Ashley was shaking like a leaf on the podium?

Any thoughts?

I just watched it and you are right. She started to shake when the Russian
anthem started playing. I thought it might be a video freeze but when they were being photographed on th podium her legs started to shake it was a jerky shake and it llooked like she was trying to control it. Nerves? Funny when I was watching it live I did not notice it at all.

emotional and passionate with her own skate, new criteria for European/Russian skaters to medal. LOL. :chorus:

She could have won Nationals, but that gold medal slipped out of her hands.
She could have won this event, but, once again, that gold medal slipped out of her hands.

No European skater has medaled in the ladies junior worlds for the last five years, and now ONE European lady gets on the podium and it's all blah blah blah the judges are so biased blah blah blah. Honey, I'm sorry but I am not at ALL convinced by what you're saying.

Poor Ashley, Maybe she did not expected to see Caroline standing over her.

Yes, I actually felt sorry for Ashley. She was 8 places in front of Caroline, yet finished behind her. I hope she is not too depressed. :disapp:

Oh come on! what's your problem?! Maybe you're just jealous? Alena's program was difficult and she did all of her jumps (including two triple flips and a triple Lutz). And yes, she was emotional, that's why her PCS was so high!

Maybe she was ill? I don't know, I've read two articles about the Ladies freeskate (IN and ISU) and in both Ashley sounded... I don't know like she needed a break. She said how her LP was 'a good skate for this week' so maybe she was a bit ill? I also think she's still really disappointed about missing worlds. She never wanted to go to Jr Worlds and only did it to get 2 GPs. She's putting a lot of pressure on herself. But I must say it hasn't been too good a season for her, all those 4th place finishes she nearly finished 4th again at Jr Worlds! It must be frustrating, especially because we all can see how much she has improved her artistry. Poor Ashley, I'd giver her a hug if I were in Bulgaria.

EDIT: I just saw the medal ceremony, I didn't realize it was on youtube; her legs are shaking really badly! And she's completely aware of that, her hands are on her legs almost the whole time, trying to keep it under control. I don't know what may have caused it, I think pent-up stress or illness. It looked pretty spastic, so probably the former. Maybe a combination of both.
