Any Sasha updates?

Didn't Alissa appear in a few print ads for those jackson hinged boots she had a few years ago? She loved them, and was the first (and I think only) elite skater to actually try them, but didn't they mess up her jumps or something? Do they even make those boots anymore?
Yes, Czisny was the "poster girl" for the Jackson ProFlex hinged skate in 2005 (after she won the silver at Skate America and the gold at Skate Canada), but she decided to make the switch back to regular skates after 2008 Nationals, according to her January 2009 online journal entry: http://www.figureskatersonline.com/alissaczisny/journal/2009-january3.html
I know that Rohene Ward wore the Jackson hinged boots and could land triple axels and quad toes in them.

BTW, I've started a new and separate thread for U.S. skater endorsements, commercials, public service announcements, Olympic promos, etc.: http://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29924

Yes, that sounds very much like Sasha. I think she is perfectionist in almost everything in her life, which is why she cannot settle for a C-list acting career or a spiral that is 179 degrees. But as for requesting what she wants on her plate...I am the same way and I am not an international skater!

Lol, the part about the waiter/et al was something I read about Sasha (think it was this past summer?) about how when she was getting interviewed the interviewer noticed how exact Sasha is in what she eats & when she eats. They were at some eatery & Sasha had ordered something healthy (think it was fish?) & it wasn't to her specification, so she sent it back & it still wasn't to her exact specifications, but this time she decided to just settle for less, lol. But Sasha told the interviewer about how hard it was to get the right type of food to eat when touring (I HAVE to find that article), most of the skaters just ordered room service, which wasn't that healthy. But one can tell that Sasha tried her best, even taking along her own little healthy snacks (think it was celery sticks/nuts/granola) while on the touring bus going from city to city. I just found the article fascinating/interesting. Hmm, I know I also just read something recently about how Sasha's mom cooks for her, but was this while on tour? Anybody out there know? Or was it at the last Olympics????

Hearsay info about Sasha Cohen that's been passed along to me: she was sighted working on footwork with Lori Nichol at a southern California rink last weekend.

Thanks, Sylvia, for some info. finally! :) No matter how small, any little tidbit is appreciated, for ALL skaters.

Sasha has not shown us much since 2006, so we have no idea what she is capable of. If her SOI/fluff events are any evidence, it's not promising. But I don't think we can judge based on that because very few have seen what she is doing in practice and how severe her injury really is.

I just wanted to say that I, for one, consider her SOI performances pretty awesome, as far as choreography, creativity, performance, et al. Yes, they may have had only one or two jumps at most, but that's not what drew me into the performance. For example, my fav SOI routines of Sasha's were the Guardian Angel one where she is wearing wings, and also the one where she looked absolutely breathtaking as a Cirque du Soleil type of ballerina dancing on a pedestal (showing off her exquisite flexibility/artistry), then being carried around by the guys of SOI. Lastly, her Moonlight Sonata was another masterpiece. JMHO. So once again I say for me her SOI routines are evidence of something awesome to look forward to!

The last US skater I've seen on TV doing a non-skating endorsement has been Kimmie-Subway and Under Armour. And Michelle with Kraft. But those ran a few years ago.

I looooooooove the one with Michelle Kwan! Lol, I actually made that salad to see how it would taste.

Mathman knows alot about Alissa so he can fill in - but afaik, Alissa's family is not wealthy and if she could make extra money to help pay for her training I have a feeling she would probably consider it.

I think she is a very pretty and photogenic young lady and it is surprising that she hasn't been in commercials. But there is a difference between being a Natl champion and a World Champion or Olympic medalist.

There was an article that came out last year about how Alissa's agent was shocked & saddened that she wasn't getting any endorsements nor television appearances (aka Leno, Letterman, etc.) after her Nationals win. I don't know if that has changed, but it could be because of the way the economy is nowadays...

Alissa models with an agency and has done some travelling in the past to participate in modelling competitions. She also has done some modeling for MAC:

Here is what she wrote in the journal on her website about sponsors and modelling:

"From there, I flew directly to Montreal, Canada for a photo shoot with Mondor. (I had done a photo shoot for a jewelry advertisement also this past year and a few modeling jobs with MAC, and some modeling jobs during the Red Bull Air Races and the NASCAR races at the Michigan International Speedway, but not much more than that because of time and scheduling conflicts. A new Michigan law has brought much business from the movie industry here; and I did some auditions for films, but I could not commit to any time schedule because it would take away from my training time before the Grand Prix competitions.)"

She is the most photogenic American lady. She's gorgeous!

Yes, Jackson does still make those boots and they have worked with Alissa in the past and made a boot just for her. She's stated that the hinged boots made her ankles extremely strong.

They never added the photoshoot photos to her gallery though. In fact, can they be found anywhere??

I did like "MS" as an exhibition and the butterfly piece was lovely! I felt MS was a more challenging exhibition for Sasha, with the SP like structure, compared to the other pieces she had done on SOI tour. Much of the rest was nice as well, but all very similar, same jumps, same moves, a few different variations to the same spins, so not really pushing herself out of her comfort zone-which she absolutely did not need to do! Showing how I don't think we could accurately gauge her skating by SOI performances, hence why the Sasha of 2010 is vastly different from the Michelle of 2006. Sasha's programs, while pretty and enjoyable show pieces, don't show us much about where Sasha may be to face eligible skaters. She would regularly attempt a 3sal, 3toe and 2ax, and very few reports said she would land all 3 cleanly. Another not so impressive stat. That's all I meant!

Probably Toyota Sports Center since that is where Lori went last year when she came to California to work on programs with Frank's students.

Who hasn't sasha worked with since this summer? Morozov, Nicks, Artunian, I was pretty sure sombody mentioned Wilson at some point...now Lichol. Well, Sasha knows who the best is...and who can make a great CoP program. I was at Toyota pretty much everyday last week and didn't see nobody, I guess I am there at the wrong times.

I had heard she had done some modeling for dance costumes but didn't know it was that extensive. Isn't she a little short to be a model? I thought they had to be 5'8" or something

I think that's for runway models.

If you're just doing photos, you don't have to be that tall.

(Unless you're standing next to a very tall person)

And if you're doing stuff like makeup and/or toothpaste / mouthwash commercials, they are focusing on your face anyway.

Yuna does lots of commercials & modeling in Korea, and she's not tall at all. Mao too does lots of commercials & modeling in Japan, and she's shorter than Yuna. (Mao's Asience commercial, for example, looks beautiful, and she looks very elegant and lovely while skating on the ice alone in a white dress.)

Does anybody think Michelle went to skate in Korea for free? ;)

Michelle was doing the same thing four years ago that Sasha is doing now. Michelle was trying to skate in a third Olympics.

Sasha is trying to skate in the Olympics again, just like Michelle did.

Now Michelle is in grad school and preparing for life at 30.
Sasha is not nearly that old yet. She is doing just what Michelle did four years ago.

Maybe she is being as unrealistic about this as Michelle was. But everyone should have a chance to pursue their goals and dreams.

Sometimes I wish Michelle's fans were as gracious as Michelle always was.
That would be setting the bar pretty high but it would be nice. :)

The difference between what Michelle tried to do 4 years ago and what Sasha is doing is that Michelle had been competing regularly in the quadrennial before Torino. She competed at Nationals and Worlds from 2002 to 2005, winning 4 more National titles and 3 more World medals. She did several USFS-based cheesefest competitions as well during that period. Michelle was in training the entire quadrennial until she was injured in the fall of 2006.

Sasha's been skating in SOI and hasn't competed since Worlds in March of 2006. She waited until June 2009 to begin serious training for her "comeback". There just is no comparison between the two. Michelle was returning from a much shorter absence from training (a few months) as opposed to three and a half years (Sasha).

If I was judging back in 2002 Sasha would have won Silver in SLC as she outskated - and absolutely outperformed a lacklustre Michelle and Irina.

That podium should have been Sarah, Sasha and ............... not sure who for the bronze but probably Irina.

I hope Vancouver does not award medals to the favorites if they do not deserve it and earn it on the ice.

Thank God you weren't a judge then! No way should Sasha's lackluster skating skills, lack of speed, and very shallow edgework in 2002 be judged ahead of Irina's and Michelle's superior skating skills.

Well that is your opinion and it makes sense to me. Michelle tried and her injury prevented her from competing in Torino. I don't think Michelle competed that year and I guess she never competed again.

The same thing may happen to Sasha. Her injury might keep her from competing at Natls - and if so Sasha may never compete again either.

Skating went on after Michelle and it will go on after Sasha.

I predicted a while ago that if Cohen were to go through with her "comeback" then the same thing might happen to her that happened to Kwan in 2006. I'm still not ruling it out. (most likely: she's a no-show, of course)

That's cool. I know Mao is endorsed by Olympus Camera company, she's done a lot of cute commercials for them, most of them with her sister, who is gorgeous!

Skating has gone on without Sasha for three and a half years, already.

And for 5 and a half years without Michelle.

But last time I looked Sasha was still skating and performing.

It is Michelle who is retired.

And Sasha has a thread at GS with over 1000 posts.

I heard Michelle never came close to that
