2010-2011 Programs by Discipline

The fact that Fernandez opens his short program with the grab doesn't help. That it's a sustained moment doesn't help (Amodio uses it briefly and in relation to his step sequences/dance move transitions). I'm not defending either skater, but I think the hit Fernandez will take will be much greater simply because it colours the rest of the program that much more.

Remember when men in tights was not "appropriate" I guess you could see to much? Grabbing ones package is just stupid . It was stupid and vulgar when Michael jackson did it and its stilll is. If a girl grabbed her boobs I cant imagine what would happen.

I quite agree with Pogue's point...The fact that Javier's transgression comes at the opening of the program is like some sort of fanfare..sort of a bottom-feeder version of a grand entrance, or something..It's hard to erase it from your mind for the rest of the program.

But honestly, Amodio's antics are hardly less offensive..particularly the two-hander with the thrust.:disapp:

Overall, I don't like the programs, anyway. They just go for the easy gimme , without much thought going into how the music is put together or musical interpretation. What the heck is going on in the second part of Javier's program ?..Oh, people liked him staggering about as a drunken pirate ? OK,.. let's find another reason for him to be staggering about...If the footwork looks sloppy , it's all part of the act..( BTW, did I notice him hooking up with two girls/boys in there ?..stupid for Patrick , stupid for Javier ). I think people liked Javier for his abilities , not his program, last year. If they liked the program :rolleye: I think it was because of Javier, not the reverse. Would it have been as well received if it had been performed by a less capable skater ? I don't think so.

As for Florent , is it because they were wanting a more "mature" look for him this year, that he's all decked out in rough trade gear for his SP ? There's not much else of MJ except the crotch grab in his LP. And once again, it's falling back on the most juvenile, obvious, unimaginative use of the music to have the skater trying to copy MJ's movements, in the first place.:sheesh:...That's my rant.

Lol, in a way I feel it's 1956, and Elvis Presley just appeared on the Ed Sullivan show, television censoring his performance by only shooting him from the waist up.

I'm actually a long-time Elvis Presley fan, but in retrospect (as a fully thinking cognizant adult, not the blind sheeple of my youth) I see how this was the beginning of the end to the decay of our culture/society, every generation just getting nastier & nastier in order to sell themselves to the public, and controversy definitely will sell. A sad commentary on the times in which we live, no doubt, practically everybody willing to sell their soul for the $$$$, giving in to temptation, instead of making an honest living without resorting to taking off one's clothes or titillating the public's imagination.

Give me John Curry's "Don Quixote" any day, or Evgeni Plushenko's "Nijinsky" over what sells on the ice these days. In fact, my all-time favorite performances touch the soul, not the other thing, lol. :D

Now I'll head back to watching Brian Joubert & Beethoven's 9th! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2kvYqarHf0 :)

Elvis in his own words:

“Rock and roll music, if you like it, if you feel it, you can't help but move to it. That's what happens to me. I can't help it.'” Elvis Presley

Yeah, Elvis was so innocent at the very beginning. He was the first of his kind at the time. I don't think the same can be said of his predecessors, they were definitely more calculating and knew what they were doing.

As it relates to skating, I would say Sonja Henie was the Elvis of figure skating. :)

Carolina Kostner SP is on music:
Galicia Flamenco

She skated it in a gala tonight and I found it gorgeous!! her best short program along with canon (2007 sp)!

Kanako's cheerful personality just shines through with that short program....love it!

I really like the SP - and Kanako is an absolute delight! The LP was not her best skate but think it has potential.
Good luck to her this season.
