I am actually a fan of both Kim and Kwan but I am not a devoted uber fan of either so maybe I am not the most qualified to compare. However the Kwan fans struck my attention over the years than the Kim fans but maybe that is because skating isnt as popular as it used to be and you dont the latter as much. I do know if you bring up Asada that seems to bring some of the Kim fanatics into a tizzy of sorts, the same way I remember Slutskaya and Lipinski doing so for Kwan fanatics.

My all time favorite skaters are all ones that dont have an uber group of any sort unfortunately.

Ok. I feel the need to clarify my comparison of Yuna and Sasha since that seems to be a big issue. For me, both are great skaters but both suffer from competition nerves.

I guess winning OGM, under pressure from her WHOLE country and didn't choke at the end and never placed off the podium in her entire career can be classified as someone who suffered from competitive nerves. Sometimes people underestimate Yuna's mental toughness.

There you go. You just have no clue about what you are talking about. Volchkova and Sebestyen were NOT better than Slutskaya, period. They were inconsistant because they were NOT good jumpers!

They werent better since they were too inconsistent, but the quality and technique of their jumps was better. Scott Hamilton, Sandra Bezic, Peggy Fleming, Tracy Wilson and Susie Wynn in fact all said Volchkova's jump technique and power in her jumps was even better than Slutskaya, but hey what do they know, you are the real expert I guess. Kim's technique and power on her jumps likewise is clearly better than Slutskaya's but unlike those underachievers she actually puts it all together which makes her a clearly better jumper (and overall skater) than Slutskaya. The only thing Slutskaya does better is possibly spins (and sometimes footwork). Someone who thinks Slutskaya was a better jumper than Kim is truly clueless on the sport, which would be someone like you no doubt.

True. I should've added that for ME its always strange to see Yuna get the butterflies at lesser events - like Grand Prix vs. Olympics. Whereas Kwan was rock solid right until she saw those rings on the ice. Irina - same problem. I never really thought Sasha had nerves in the usual sense - more headcase than butterflies. She just couldn't seem to breath during programs. (Something tells me I will rue the day I had the nerve to compare Yuna Kime with Sasha Cohen - and it all started out so innocently... right until the prying doors - now I feel bad for upsetting the Ubers...)

Not forgetting whatever nerves Yuna might have suffered, she always manage to win at least either a long or short program in each of the competition she has ever entered since competing in her seniors. That is some nerve! If this is not mental toughness, i don't know what is.

For me being a fan both, again, I believe everything is relative to context. I prefer to think whoever is luckier that day, wins. Or whoever is unluckier, looses. I find it funny, people always ask who will win out of MK and KYM, what about Mao Vs MK hehehhe since people keep bring up Sasha for some reason... <trailing off with an evil larfff...>

ha, he had a skaters fate also , cause he had knee and ankle problems, he smashed under an earthquake due to his fragile knees Did you know there is a controversy if he was made with open legs like the photo you posted or with a base from the knees and below because it has been proved impossible the lower part of the body to have support the whole statue weight like this?? by his height the feet should have been way apart in distance to be safe.
It is said Statue of Liberty was inspired by Colossus original purpose, but it was more wise to be wearing the clothes

Sometimes comparing is contrasting. Also, like I said earlier: I don't think Sasha had competition nerves - just issues. She wanted to win more than she wanted to skate and skating's the gig, not just the winning.

I think it's pretty safe to say that Michelle's 2004 Nationals teddy bear/gift toss was much closer to Yuna's 2008 GPF gift toss than at 1998 Nationals.

I love how Yuna's just standing there probably going, "Dang, I messed up" while the crowd's throwing stuff that could potentially hit her. And she's like, "Nah. It won't hit me."
