Wow, nice tight race for first. Should be a good FD tomorrow. That looked about right. W/P were sloppy, but their technical and performance level is high, even when they're not on. I think they still have a legitemate shot at gold tomorrow, if he can manage to grab his foot in the twizzle. Any idea what time (Eastern) the FD will be on?

W/P had some very visible mistakes and they did not skate their best. Surprised that they are ahead of
the Shibs.

Wow at those scores. W/P were over-scored, I agree with the british eurosport guys. Oh well, it is how it is. I wonder what the pressure to be in first place will do to I/K. I must admit I wish they pull an upset and win tomorrow, as I was a bit surprised at how many saw them off the podium

It starts around 10 p.m. today Eastern time.

I hope that Maia and Alex don't get discouraged- they skated that SD really well. Even better than last week. Everything so sharp and exact. Too bad that they couldn't even get second place over Weaver/Poje with that wonky twizzle sequence. Oh well.

Didn't see all of I/K cause the feed kept stopping and starting for me but I must say she looks so attractive out there on the ice. A real presence.

Look at the technical panel and the judges.

Tech Controller: ISR
Tech Specs: JPN, RUS
Judges: UZB, RUS, GEO, CZE, JPN, ITA, GER, CAN, USA

Again, 3 judges from former SSRs, and 1 tech from RUS, just like CoC

And your point being? You think I/K were held up today? Look at the protocol and tell me where exactly and what judge pushed their marks up. The only strange think is one judge marked them very low. The rest of the judges scored them pretty much on the same range. They got level 2 for both rumba, so the Tech Specialist didn't favor them at all

Again, not in all circumstances. I just think it's an issue that choreographers have to be aware of and Zoueva & Shpilband happen to do a find job of it.

I think the judging is on par. I/K had a really fantastic opening step sequence, and really sold the program at the beginning. It fizzled out somewhat towards the end, but their elements were for the most part well done. It's early in the season for them, but I think they can develop this program so much more. I love how they hit the beat so well in the Hip Hip Chin Chin section.

I adore Weaver and Poje, and I think this SD is a winner, but clearly, they had errors today. I hope Andrew can work on those twizzles! I have to say, I love this program for them.

The problem with the Shibutanis is that you can turn off the music, replace it and the dance will look the same. You'd never know it's supposed to be Latin. Particularly in the second half of the program. That circular step sequence? No relation to the music at all. They were impressive technically last year, but this year, they seem slow and not that special in the technique.

And the judge thing is just chuckie's usual MO whenever an American doesn't win. It's always a Russian/European/Canadian conspiracy.

Ice Dancing is an aesthetic sport of opinion, more so than any other discipline. There are so many factors involved in the judges' overall perception of the program. I love the Shibs and their short dance was my favorite of all last season, but their short dance this season looks like a string of elements to me, whereas Weaver/Poje and Ilinykh/Katsalapov skate complete programs.

Once again, I am seriously amazed by Maia ans Alex's work ethic. Somehow they managed to amp up their performance level in less than a week, while traveling, and practicing in foreign rinks. Whatever place they are in, the use of this talent makes me happy to see :) Normally teams take weeks or even months to change the dynamic of the program like that. Bravo to them and Igor

I'm completely in agreement with you. All the judging seemed sound to me in this event. I even remarked after the introduction of judges that they seemed very evenly balanced between North America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, and Asia.

I love how they upped the performance ante. Maia is finally learning how to pull her face ala Madison Chock. Kudos!

Scoring was fair. The Shibs are not going anywhere with such atrocious programs like they have this season. Hilary Clinton could go and do a rumba better than that.

Wow, if you have pics of Secretary Clinton dancing rumba, please share
