Plushenko's Return

Thank you so much for the link!

So this is where he'll challenge himself:thumbsup::

Evgeni also said that with the greatest interest he watching what is now happening in men's figure skating: "A different and can not be - it's my job, my career, my life. I look forward to the Grand Prix Final in Canada - very many of them have added, started to pay attention to the steps, the spins. Compared with what was, this is a completely different approach. It will be interesting to compete."

Referring to "the medal issue", Plushenko shared that he does not waiting revanche for "silver" at Olympics 2010: "I'm not chasing Olympic medals, I have three of them (one of them gold - prim.ITAR-TASS). Right now, and with a "bronze" I will be happy."

So he doesn't have a quad at least at Russian Nationals. He might throw away the whole idea of chasing quad jumps. But he'll challenge himself for the content of the entire program as a whole. I think this is a realistic plan. I'm excited about it. He is capable of having amazing footworks. Look at some of his Ex. programs! My admiration for him is rising higher. What a heroic legend!!!

This will be his fourth Olympics if he makes it, yes? Did any male or female single skater in the very olden days go to 4 Olympics?

Stojko did four (1992-2002)
Gillis Gafstrom did four (1920-1932)
Shen/Zhao did four (1998-2010)
Julia Sebestyen did four (1998-2010)

Also, from the top of my head, Sonja Henie of course (last in 1924, first in 1928-32-36).

And in the modern era, Laetitia Hubert (1992-2002)

I hope he skates well, and does not get embarrassed or upset if placements don't go his way. It was a risk to go to Vancouver. He is so brave, a warrior and really loves to skate and compete. Just amazing. If only Yagudin was healthy enough to have skated in his third Olympics. Russia's two male superstars competing. Those were great skating events.
There are several other skaters who could potentially compete in their fourth Olympics in 2014: KvdP and Brian Joubert were both at SLC, and Joubert at least has been talking seriously about sticking around. I could see him doing the team event at least. Aliona Savchenko, Pang and Tong, and the Zhangs are also three-time Olympians (not Robin Szolkowy; in 2002, Aliona was still skating with Stas Morozov).

I dont feel like celebrating, I still have the trauma of the last time he competed:laugh:

Gee, how many skaters have the ability to cause such long lasting trauma on others?!

To the skater who could cause people "life-threatening" trauma!:bow::bow::biggrin:

Vanessa Mae's Leyenda is wonderful to listen to. Didn't Plushenko already skate to the tango from Moulin Rouge earlier in his career?

I had no idea he planned to come back this soon. It'll be an interesting end to the season if he does.

Thank you so very much for recommending "Leyenda", Antilles, I've honestly been hooked on it since I saw your post yesterday. And Vanessa Mae to be honest. I love ALL her music. I mean I've heard of her before and may have listened to snips of her music, but nothing like what occurred yesterday, I feel as if a brand new door has opened for me, most importantly the door of perception.

My favorite part occurs at 1:21, wherein comes a beautiful haunting call to go along with the change of tempo of music, then the tempo picks up and goes faster & faster & faster until a man laughs with joy/glee/wild abandon, and the beat doesn't stop. Nor does the music. A whirling dervish out there on the ice, then the haunting music again, more wild spirited shouts from the soul, finally ending with a whisper...

I can just see Zhenya skating to such a joyous song, straight from the soul, perhaps during the footwork?

But it's hard to choose from such a grand array of music that Vanessa Mae conjures, all of it is so different, but the element that they all share is her. She's like a demon, or an angel, on that fiddle (ah, I mean violin). ;) :D

The end of the month seriously cannot come soon enough, as that's when Evgeni The Great (& Humble) is supposed to appear at Russian Nationals. And the wait, and the anticipation and excitement goes on, as does the beat...

If Zhenya comes back with a bang !
will be one of the greatest comeback in FS

looks like he is really determined
good luck and hope he succeeds

I find it interesting that so many internationally-known young Russian athletes end up in politics. Plushenko, Marat Safin (tennis) and Svetlana Khorkina (gymnastics) to name a few. I wonder what Russia does to recruit them into politics, and what we need to do here in the US to have a Congresswoman Kwan, Senator Cohen or Governor Boitano. :)

OK, Guys, playing the devil's advocate.....is Plushenko going to learn how to interpret music and actually skate a program, instead of jumping all over the rink? Please, his performance at Vancouver certainly contained a monster number of jumps, including a quad, but talk about rocky landings, crooked execution, and zilch in the way of artistry. My apologizes to his many fans. Of course, I would love to see him develop into a "complete" skater with the full package, and perhaps that will happen by 2014.

He has it in him. To be honest, although I am a fan, I haven't loved any of his programs since his 99-00 LP to Dark Eyes. He interpreted the music well and it fit with his quirky choreography. I also did enjoy his 2006 SP to Tosca, his jumps were not rocky at all and he used his arms beautifully in his jump landings.

I watched the training video and I told myself "Hey, this is a really good skater". Even the way he raised his arm looked artistic. Then it suddenly hit me that I was watching Plushenko, whom I never enjoyed watching. He could do so well for each element, but when all elements were put together he became so boring to watch. I blamed Mishin for wasting such an exceptional talent by packaging him as a jumping robot. I hope his programs this year will change my mind. By the way, who did his choreography this year?

Agreed. I can't believe so many people here are excited about him coming back. I liked him when he was younger and showed some personality, but after his last two Olympic performances I wish he'd just go away already. It seems all he wants to do is do crossovers around the ice, do a quad, do more crossovers around the ice, and do a triple axel combo and a few flailing arm movements. I think he's the last thing men's skating needs. What a snore.

I think you forgot the hip thrusts.:)
But that sounds fair. All I want to do usually is drink coffee on a Sunday morning. :)
