TV Alert: Caesars Tribute II: A Salute to the Ladies of Ice On Now!!!!

I really wanted to like Miki Ando's program. I love the music she chose. But the choreography seemed so static and fragmented to me, and the footwork had no relation at all to the music. Did anyone else react that way?

WHOA!!! An actual good skate from Arakawa! Technical and artistic proficiency.

sorry everyone else, but a lot of you guys were phoning it in ...

No Tara who is skating very well , but hubert? I really wanted to see her. How did they chack an American Oly gold star?

I didn't feel like the music and choreography went together well either :\

I really want to like Miki Ando. But I just can't.

Joannie was gorgeous. Miki was very slow, don't like this for her, expected some real jumping from Miki I love this piece for Shizuka but she is way too thin. Look at her Torino days. She was strong looking.

I'm tickled that Lipinski looks almost exactly the same. Sarah looks very different from her competing days, and so does Sasha, but Tara, who was the youngest at her peak and is I think the oldest of them now, has changed almost not at all. Same face structure, same height, same expression, same hair, pretty much the same figure. And doesn't she look happy to be there? It's great to have her back.

But we didn't see her skate a number!!!!! I know Peggy does not like her. I wonder if that speech got her edited out. Tara has filled out and looks very different, I think. Sarah stopped dying her hair those awful colors and let it grow out dark. She has a great figure. Why Hubert? She was dreadful. Kudos to Liz Manley who is close to 50, I think, and is still dynamic. No longer tiny but she clearly loves to skate. I can't believe Kristi does not skate the last few years. She was a fave of so many people. Nancy is early 40's and still doing it. I loved her skate at Caesars I to "Wicked." I think she is not the perfectionist anymore like Kristi. I like that Nancy loves to skate still. With 3 kids and all the troubles, I think it helps her cope.

Peggy was a huge Kwan supporter and I am disappointed MK seems to feel she owes nothing to these folks (and her fans in the US). I would like to have seen Roz or Dorothy do something. The Protopopovs are in late 70's. I am thrilled to see them still skating, just amazing. I really enjoyed last years show much more. Button had his two cents about "current skating"=gotta love the old coot!

Arakawa's " Yugao" has been my favorite for a long time. I really do not remember how many times I repeated it.

Anyway, this magnificent piece is choreographed by Kenji Miyamoto, who also choreographed, " Eye" "Bacholerett." " Love letter" and " Crisis " for Dai.
Such a talent!!

With the exception of all the repetitive ads, we enjoyed the broadcast of this show. We attended the live show, but I don't remember if Tara did a full program. I was glad to see no one get "chacked" (for last year's fabulous show, which we had the pleasure of attending 7 (!) performances were chacked, although they were all eventually put up on the Stargames site). It was cute to see the young skaters in the beginning, the NYC Ice Theatre performance, and I loved the whole tribute to Peggy ("Uncle" Dickie was funny and eloquent).

I had emailed Jerry Solomon about both tribute shows, asking if Michelle had been invited. He said that she was, but declined. Wish she would have been at both Caesar Tributes, but I guess you can't have everything. I loved this show, but would have been even more over the moon had Midori Ito been a part of it.

Bravo to the Ladies! I thought the show was very well done. Shiz, Joannie and Sasha were my favorite performances, Liz, Nicole and Nancy were just terrific.

I remember reading a piece on Tara awhile back (sorry no link) and she talked about her participation in this show and how excited she was to be asked. Tara did say that
she would be only skating in the group numbers.

(?) Peggy likes Tara just fine. Tare hasn't skated in years and was not prepared to do a full solo number.

Mathman, watch the documentary on Youtube about MK. Sorry, I don't recall the part, I think there are 7 parts to it. I will paraphrase. " I never saw a little girl like her, she was driven. She wasn't intimidated by anyone, she just came in here and showed off!." Tons of judgement re Tara. I am positive Peggy had nothing to do with casting. So it is there for you to see and hear. You know it was a lovefest at nationals for Kwan and the commentators and the skating establishment liked the humble Michelle. MK was not stupid. When Peggy got breast cancer, MK called her from nagano. Pegy was touched. MK sent Dick Button Bonsai trees for Christmas.

I know you'll say it was 100% altruism, but MK and her team like all top skaters know how to work the people that matter. That's ok, she is smart and was always very aware of her image. If I have a criticism on MK, it is that she'd get her triples together for a run at Vancouver, but has reportedly turned down all but the most lucrative offers (Yuna ATS) and done only an LA Yuna show. I don't care if she has "retired." She owes many people in skating for her good fortune and her long term fans are DISAPPOINTED she can't show up and do what she did for USA figureskating.Or a charity, or even Peggy Fleming. Obviously she will be at Nationals to be inducted. So, MK is now living in the pinnacle of power and feels she owes nothing to us devoted fans who made her. MK is a good girl, but not perfect, and very savvy about money. She has left skating, for now, but I hope she recalls us and understands that her skating fans bought tickets, cheered loudly and without us, she'd be still in Torrance.

A lot of folks did not like tara or her mother Pat. MK was the darling, humble chinese girl with humble sacrificing parents, gracious loser in Nagano, reliable. Tara won everything in two years and left. She was not the darling of USFSA despite the gold medal. All you have to do is listen and watch Peggy and it is clear, she was not a fan of Tara the person. Now maybe you know Peggy and can call her up. I'm sure pc peggy will say she likes Tara. I was surprised to see PC perfect Peggy even say and intone what she did. So that is my reason. And how do you know more? You don't. (I wish you did and would spill all the good stuff.) So this isn't gossip. Just watch Peggy's interview in that 'documentary' and you will see why I say this. From the horse's mouth.

Maybe she feels differently now with the passage of so many years. i hope so.

MK doesn't owe anything to us. We had the pleasure of seeing her skate and she's not obligated to skate publicly for the rest of her life - just as Kristi is no longer obligated to skate in shows forever. As a grad student, MK may not have time to maintain her prior level of skating and may not wish to dial in a performance that doesn't meet her personal standards. Kristi also has many obligations both career and personal.

Scott Hamilton once said that he would stop skating when he could no longer consistently perform a double axel. I'm sure each skater has their own personal benchmark for leaving the ice.

MK was in grad school and she got her triples back in 2009 and said on camera she was "leaving her options open." She could put that on hold for a fourth Olympics going after the gold medal she wanted more than anything else. She graduated in May and has moved to DC to be with her grad school friends and presumably have some sort of "diplomatic career" or pursue ? I disagree she owes her fans nothing or the USFSA that promoted her so well. And I think it would be nice and gracious to accept even just appearances in honor of her skating friends and supporters who did so much from you. I believe in paying back. I clearly have a different idea about this. She skated fine and is in great shape for Yuna's shows and skated at a rink in Boston frequently.

I disagree with your view of things.
