South Korean federation's complaint to the ISU about judging

As a person who knows digital graphic (I worked for a publishing house), I have to say all the images they use to media are cropped, reimaged and resized to a certain extent. Most of the time, they resize the image just to make it look better (according to their point of view). Sometimes they edit the image so it would be suitable for some nebulous intent. But frankly, some photoshoped images are not enough to call they proofs to prove that NYT are covering something about Sochi. Since it's very difficult to look for an image that hasn't been distorted by the media.

There is a difference between editing photos for publication and editing photos to MANIPULATE the appearance of said photos, and the latter is their allegations.

Of course I didn't rely on NYT photos to know that Adelina's jumps were bigger.

I know images used in media are processed because I work as a graphic designer.
But these photos are highly manipulated to work for someone's advantage (Adelina's) and given that this was a sensitive issue during the Olympics, then this pretty much suggests something's up.
Sot's 2A-3T from NYT: http://graphics8.nytimes.com/newsgr...3d8/1050/adelina-2A-3T-labels-ai2html_300.jpg
Yuna's 3S-2T: http://graphics8.nytimes.com/newsgr...b8d3d8/1050/yuna-3S-2T-labels-ai2html_300.jpg

My observation is that the arrow on Sot's jump combination started on the wrong point (end of free leg rather than the actual take-off) which was done to make her jump look higher. As compared to Yuna's image, you can see she is smaller in comparison to Adelina which is not true because Yuna is taller/bigger than Adelina (not that Yuna's fat but you get my point). As a graphic designer, I would have used the proper ratio. I would have extended the ice in Adelina's photo so that with her correct size, the width of her image is the same a Yuna's. That's not very difficult.

I am laughing at an idea that NYT, of all places, tried to doctor images to cover up a sensitive, in some crazy minds, subject matter. Thank you for a good laugh.

You guys are sounding kinda crazy. I agreed with the Tech Panel's call not because they were the Tech Panel but because I SAW both skates. If the KSU saw the same "fraud" then they would have made a case, they surely have the means, the certified experts and the technology. They threatened to file a formal complaint didn't they? You should send all of your evidence to them, it might be more helpful than to argue with anonymous strangers who are sure where they stand. It is very telling that the KSU didn't.

I posted my comments because you accused BoP of being "insulting". I'm not saying BoP's analysis is any more accurate than your analysis or the tech panel. However, I appreciate he made his reasoning publicly accessible unlike you or the ISU. I don't see how his post is more insulting than your own for other opinions.

Yeah I get your point. It's true that these image have strange and distorted ratio. But as I have said, we can find no proof from them. Why should NYT have to help Russian figure skating fed to cover up something for them? I do believe Russian Fed has done something nebulous but for NYT to help them, it seems so weird to me. I mean, it's the NYT, they should have tried all the way to bash Russian fed.

Wow....incredible....you are now making allegations against the NYT??? That the NYT cared so much for Russia and Adelina's gold they would stoop to fraud? My....like I said, creepy.

Look, I didn't come to my conclusion because of the NYT photos, I came to my conclusion based on what I saw, and to allege that the general press and experts are resorting to fraud, as if there is a Global Conspiracy to deprive Yuna of gold, this is getting really absurd, and too paranoid.

That's not an allegation. Here: http://graphics8.nytimes.com/newsgr...3d8/1050/adelina-2A-3T-labels-ai2html_300.jpg

Here's what I said: "Just look at the start of the arrow on Adelina's take off on her 2A-3T. The arrow started on her free leg and not on the actual start of her take -off to make it look like she jumped higher."

Look at the image and tell me I'm wrong. The title of that article says it all. "How Sotnikova beat Kim MOVE BY MOVE" BUT not providing VALID analyses of the skaters' executed elements and providing inaccurate images of ONLY two jumps because guess what, they couldn't use Adelina's 3Lz-3T because it had wrong edge and UR, not the Flip because it had full-blade take-off, not the Loop because Yuna doesn't have that, not the 3F-2T-2L because she had a step out on that. :rolleye:

I haven't gotten into the spins yet where they used a longer time frame for Yuna and only a few frames for Adelina to make it look like she spins tighter and better. LOL. If that's not obvious manipulation... :|

I said he was insulting because he called me a "troll":rolleye:, this is absolutely unacceptable. You can disagree with someone but just because the other person doesn't think the same way you shouldn't resort to insults. Well, being called a troll is at least not quite like receiving death threats is it?!!:disapp:

 What is it that these two pictures are supposed to show? What are the squiggly arrows that someone drew on the ice in aid of?

But I have to say that this is fair pay0back to that dedicated cadre of Yuna Kim enthusiasts that used to post Youtubes in stop motion overlain with protractors and rulers to "prove" this and that. ;)

Uhm well, some say the same system that gave home gold to Ladies gave the gold to certain US dancers... :rolleye:

I'm not saying NYT was in it with Russia. I'm saying that article should not be a reference for valid reasoning re Adelina's win because it's so inaccurate and misleading. NYT has a lot of writers. Maybe it's that.

Haha...you win. Pssssttt...the truth is, and I'm privy to it because I agreed with Sochi, there really is a Vast Global Conspiracy, inlcuidng the NYT, CSM, NBC, etc., to deprive Korea and Yuna of their OGM! Now please quote me on The Wire, Jesse Helms, etc.

If it isn't so tragic it'll actually be funny. Enjoy your angst.

Edit: oh wait...

Uhm well, some say the same system that gave home gold to Ladies gave the gold to certain US dancers...

This explains it then!

I told you! We need proper technology to do measurements. Otherwice, that's the field of... how are those guys called who study visual effects?

Amen. I couldn't tell what that picture is supposed to prove. It feels like a 3d stereogram to me and I'm not seeing the boat!

Those are the images from the actual article they published: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/02/20/sports/olympics/womens-figure-skating.html
If you read the entire article, those arrows are supposed to indicate that Adelina jumped higher than Yuna, based on the curved line. Are we really going to ignore the wrong starting point of the arrow? Really?
I've seen those youtube videos, some of them are in answer to this article. And I don't think it's fair because those videos were published by unknown people. NYT is a known publisher/news company.

Who cares who jumped higher. They really don't award GOE based on who jumped higher do they. This isn't high jump or pole vaulting. You can jump lower and still grab the same GOE or even higher GOE based on other bullets too. It's not the only bullet and it isn't awarded to the highest jumper in the field alone.
