Yulia Lipnitskaya

Now that Yulia has become much more refined this past season...I wonder where she could go with some of her past musical selections like Dark Eyes or Romeo and Juliet...

Dark Eyes and Romeo and Juliet. I bet she could skate circles around all the war horses that generations of Russian skaters have done many times in the past. It would also be interesting to see her skate to something different. She has the talent to do something other than the many times used very familiar pieces of music.

My comment was meant to express my hope that she would skate to some music other than the overly used war-horses of the past. She is young, talented, musical. Why suggest Dark Eyes or Romeo and Juliet? Snnooooooze. When there is talent and youth and potential, would appreciate if there is some effort to be INNOVATIVE or unique or original in SOME way.

I don't agree with that suggestion either. As you said it's a snooze festival, for me at least.
I really did not understand what did you mean with that I bet she could. Like you were convinced that she will go there or what? Now I know.

Anyway, I don't think she will go there. She said once that she doesn't really like classical music for her skating.
I would love to see her use Kill Bill - when the time is right - as her LP though.

One thing that is certain, Yulia will definitely choose quality music that stimulates her imagination--and mine. She may not like to use conventional classical music, but John Williams has conducted every major orchestra in America and composed much classical music in addition to several movie scores. Yulia instinctively selects music of substance. Megapolis is another fine composition, even has thunderclaps. The music she chooses brings me closer to her personality.

Alba, you're close. "I bet" is another gem of the capitalist vernacular. In societies where investing money in something requires great confidence, "I bet" is commonly used to indicate a very likely outcome. If I say I would bet on you, it's the ultimate compliment. "I bet she could ..." = "I'm very confident she is capable of ... ." Just follow the money. Also, 'could' indicates not that she will go there, but that hypothetically she is capable of going there (subjunctive). This is an example of why California Google translations can be inscrutable. I bet we could understand if they used more direct language.

Yep, I was confused with that. :)

"Bet" is my key word when dealing with Yulia's critics!;)

Many issues brought up by her detractors are essentially impossible to prove or disprove.
Like their beloved "puberty monster" that is just about to devour her talent in the nearest future.
How can you discuss such matter without profound genetic/medical/biological/whateverical examination???
You can't. It's all hypothetical, tactless, disrespectful and nonsensical storytelling.

Betting is the only sensible (plus classy and respectful) way of dealing with those matters. :)
Bet your own money on your fav skater vs my umnichka! I'm here for ya!
Pick the competition, year, period of time or the whole careers, reach to your wallet and prove you really believe in what you're writing and not just trolling or hating.

I guess, it will not happen. I am personally learning to disregard. The JGP topics were very illustrative. We had 2 unconditional wins with huge margins of 14 year old Russians. But many people praised others pointing out to numerous drawbacks of Evgenija and Serafima. And some even complained about too high scores from judges. The only difference from Sochi is that Putin was left out of the argument.

As usual my dear, as usual. ;)

The funny thing is that when comparing her to somebody else, which is more or less the same age, the puberty monster applies to her, only.
Not to other skater from the same age. :sarcasm:

Yeah, let's ban "excessive use of the 'tano' hand"! :sarcasm:

By the way - Zhenia amazed me with her clean performance, story, grace, costume, everything, but its clear to me that she is still a junior. Beautiful, elegant skater, but a junior. Not a threat to Yulia yet. ;)
But Sima almost scared me!
She looks so athletic, consistent and confident...
Adelina, Yulia and Elena* have to look over their shoulders!

* I'm not sure Sima is still behind Anna's shoulder! ;)

Puberty monster chases only after Russian girls. Nationalistic scoundrel!

Looks like there is quite chilly in Moscow? :rolleye:

In north Italy too. Strange summer this one. In Rome was splendid though. Sunny but not very hot.
The first summer I didn't use the fan. It was great.
