Would You Rather...

Live in a small, but cozy home

WYR buy a condo or rent an apartment?
We bought a condo after years of apartment dwelling and then a separate house. But it depends where you live. A rented apartment is more convenient, but where I live is the most expensive city in the country for those. Average rent for a very basic one-bedroom is $3,000 a month. Condo maintenance fee is $700 a month for a two-bedroom/two bath, and the place is a sellable asset. No contest.

WYR use an unexpected gift of money by buying something like clothes, or treating yourself to an outing like a restaurant or movie (if you were told you had to spend the money on yourself)?

I'd probably buy some new clothes.

WYR visit one country @ a time or several within a 2-3 week period?

Several as long as it was a small group where someone else handled all the scheduling, travel, and hotel arrangements.

WYR be young today (university age, say), or are you happy you grew up when you did?

Happy I grew up when I did

WYR read one book @ a time or several?

I always have several books going at the same time, one in each main room. Otherwise I'd have to carry the one book around with me all the time, like I'm told I did as a preschooler like others carry a battered teddybear 🧸.

WYR decorate your lawn and the outside of your home for holidays like Hallowe'en for neighbours and strangers to see, or keep your decorations indoors for yourself and family?

Keep decorations indoors (with the exception of the seasonal garden flags I put out on the lawn)

WYR make reservations for a hotel (for short trips) or just take your chances that you'll find a place to stay on the days that you travel?

I don't travel overnight now, but always wanted guaranteed reservations. My husband, who did the driving, preferred to just take his chances. We stayed in quite a few memorable dumps suitable for using as horror film locations as a result, and it was one of those long-running disputes in every long marriage. Like how to fold towels when putting away the laundry. :bang::angry3:

WYR leave the most-used small kitchen tools out on the counter in easy reach, or keep everything tidied away in cupboards and drawers?

Keep them in cupboards & drawers

WYR bake or fry fish?
Being allergic to most fish, I don't have it at all now in my empty nest, but I used to make salmon loaf from the canned stuff for the family so I guess that counts as bake. I don't think I've ever fried it.

WYR go to a sandy beach (on a lake or ocean) or a shady park (with a pool) in hot weather?

a sandy beach

WYR try water skiing or snow skiing?
Since I can't swim, obviously snow skiing. Hate even standing in water more than knee deep. Hate it, hate it, hate it. Shudder!

WYR shop for food with a list, in a store with a familiar layout, or browse the aisles of a new store without a list in mind?

WYR try on clothes @ a brick & mortar store or take your chances by ordering them online?
I buy online for non-sports-gear clothes, buying from companies whose sizing/colours I've learned and trust. I get confused and tired in stores and buy the wrong thing just to get out of there. Online I can browse for days, set aside possibilities in the cart, go back and forth comparing and thinking about it, all in my comfortable, quiet home, and any returns are picked up from my home as well. Skating and dancewear I buy in a store, but just from the two I use for skates/dance shoes and have to go to anyway for fittings with each pair.

WYR schedule appointments and activities in the morning or later in the day?

WYR watch a soccer or tennis match?
Tennis. Both are boring (to me), but in soccer I worry about long-lasting head injury effects to the players. 🤕 The tennis players I know tend to just sprain ankles. 🧑‍🦯

WYR watch a skating competition close up from a front-row seat, or from higher up where you can see the full pattern of the program on the ice surface?

Close up (I don't mind if it's a few rows back, though). If I have something to give the skaters after a performance, I want to be close up.

WYR have floor seats for an arena concert or sit higher up?

I've only once in my life been to a musical performance in an arena with the ice out, and then it was a visiting military pipe band from Scotland. We sat high up so we could enjoy the patterns made by the band as they marched, and the dancers in the reels. (Sort of like a synchro performance :).) I guess I'd choose the same for any performance, although I have to admit I'm not any too sure what an "arena concert" is as opposed to a theatre one like symphonies, for example?

WYR stay in a hotel or a motel (single storey) while on a road trip in your car? [I just checked and I see the American spelling is "story/stories" for a level in a building. In Canada, the UK, Australia, etc it's "storey/storeys".]

If it's an extended stay of a few days (as opposed to just overnight), a hotel

For arena rock concerts, I'd rather sit higher up. Once we had floor seats for Billy Joel, and the people in the rows in front of us were standing up for practically the whole concert.

WYR have barbecues outdoors or eat indoors during the summer months?

I always eat indoors. All biting insects, not just mosquitoes, consider me a gourmet feast. Add other food and they send out a widespread alert on the Insect Internet as to my location.

WYR buy a new car, or lease one and exchange for a new model each year?

Buy. Our current car is at least 15 years old and we are still happy with it and hope to get some more years (it may not have the bells and whistles, but it feels so right when driving)

WYR read paper books or ebooks?
