Born to a British sporting-goods store owner in 1929, John Nicks laced up his first pair of skates at 10 or 11 as a favor to his father, who was trying to figure out if there might be a market for figure skates in the seaside town of Brighton.
That's a great article. From the youtube videos of the Ladies' SP last night, he certainly looks terrific.
I've enjoyed many of his pupils over the years. I didn't know he coached Fleming, Meno and Sand,
but I remember seeing him in '99 when Nam broke through and of course who can forget Cohen.
I have no doubt that his star pupil will compete for the US in the Olympics in a year.
