wow. Quite unexpected.
But... yay for Diana! A clean protocol (she usually lips) with strict judges! 👍🏻

I hope Yuna can nail her FS, esp her 3S+3Lo combo! It is AWESOME!

Guys, there's plenty of room for the standings to change in the FS. There's only about 5 points separating 1st and 7th! I have no doubt that the top contenders will feel motivated after their performances here and put up a big fight :)
(no need for conspiracy theories here :))

Like I thought, Polina had underroted jump, didn't except that both of them. Also lost a level on spin. As did Maria. Ji Hyun Byun can be proud, she has no '<', no 'e' or '!' and all levels 4 unlike other ladies. She has exact same TES and PCS as Kaori Sakamoto  Good thing they're both 5th, not 6th as we would have again 7 ladies in last group.

It's a little strange that these Russian girls have never recived an UR before

Her lutz, though huge, is quite delayed in its rotation (think Kexin Zhang), so the landing of that jump is usually close. The video quality was low quality but based on what I saw, her free leg looked pretty late coming out of the lutz so there's a good chance the jump was actually slightly under. As for Sotskova, her 3f in the SP is usually a bit scratchy, so the UR doesn't surprise me there either. That fluke fall on the spin is what really cost her, and it looked like it hurt! Hope she's okay.

The scores are pretty tight so I think there's a good chance both Russians move up to the podium, or at least one of them does (since Yuna and Elizabet are quite strong themselves and have similar content planned). It looks like the standings will most likely be based on TES though, not much difference in the PCS for the top half of the skaters.

Mistakes happen. The video quality is not very good, so it's hard to see from my own eyes. But based on the protocols, they did receive UR calls (as did a lot of other skaters at this event). It is shocking though, because the Russian ladies have been amazingly consistent this season. But there's plenty of room for them to move up in the free :)

Maria lost an ENTIRE spin, not just a level. She fell on her flying entry, so the spin got 0 points plus she lost a point for the fall. The UR didn't effect her score that much, the reason it's so low is because of the fluke fall on the flying spin.

Tsurskaya never an ur this season! Not one anywhere! Now two in a sp? Maybe she is injured an should not even be here. I expect a withdrawl. If she is not injured she must be so stunned and disbelieving and maybe think the competion is fixed and leave.

TC doesn't matter as much as the tech specialist(and assistant) though I generally agree with your overall point.

It's a little strange that these Russian girls have never recived an UR before

Sotskova should have received a few more URs before... though I can't remember Tsurskaya UR a jump that was otherwise normal. silverlake22 is right that the free leg does come out late in that blurry video... but I'd like to see a clear video of it. Not saying it is, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is a case of not taking into account the starting angle of the blade on take-off.

Tsurskaya needs to be careful with her jumps. The delayed rotation makes them a lot more succeptible to URs despite the huge height she gets. I remember Kexin Zhang started getting lots of URs before she retired and she jumped the same way.

People often seem surprised when the girls with big jumps get URs, but really, it's quite common, since these big jumpers are usually not as fast to rotate in the air. Karen Chen and Adelina Sotnikova both have huge jumps but also struggle quite a bit with URs, for those two the URs mostly just show up in combination jumps, but still, they almost always show up in their 3-3 attempts.

Polina has so much natural jumping talent that I'm sure she can work on her jump takeoffs. I think if she can just get into the rotating position a little quicker than she will be fine. Right now she really hangs up in the air for a bit before she starts rotating, which is beautiful to look at, but going to make things harder in terms of rotation, especially given how tall she is.

The other thing is, despite her young age, Polina looks physically older than a lot of the other girls. "Puberty monster" so to speak may be affecting her now as opposed to later, given this, she's coping really well. Also, getting these URs now will probably help her address the issues sooner rather than later, which increases her chances of having gotten through the tough transitional times before she moves to seniors.

There are 3 spins right? One was invalidated, second was level 3 and only third was level 4. I meant the second, not the invalidated one. I don't believe in conspiracy theories. We all know there are competitions where tech panels are overall more forgiving, it seem that here they are just more strict. At least girls and their coaches will know where they need to improve or just take more notice. Also we don't know, maybe the ladies didn't feel the best today, that's always possible and so mistakes happened.

Why did Maria Sotskova get 0 for her 1st spin? I mean she did it after the fall. Can you not go back and redo it??

Also, it's too bad that the video quality is so poor... Impossible to see URs.
