Does anyone know why we are sending gabrielle noullet? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7nI-xUS2oE

why not kaitlyn nguyen?

Gabrielle Noullet is coached by Tammy Gambill; Gambill also is the coach for Vincent Zhou, who is competing in Japan. The USFSA tries to accommodate coaches by sending their JPG eligible skaters to the same event. It's easier on the coaches to have to make only one or two trips than multiple trips.

So far although the young Can Ladies have not done too well - I think with more competitions under their belts they all show some good potential. Let's just hope Skate Canada does not give up on them too early like they have with others. And they are fighting an uphill battle, with our bad rep for lady skaters the judges are not willing to cut them the same slack they would some others. They need to be perfect to even receive a good store.

Marin looked so relaxed going into her jumps, probably too relaxed. Her movement into jumps reminds of that of Daisuke Takahashi. Basically I think she needs to tighten her muscles a bit more and then have tighter rotations. I will probably move up in the FP as she always does.

I am glad to see Alisa skated clean, and looked pretty much the same as last season. I was expecting more ballet movement in her sp, but I could be wrong. I don't know how the Russian Dance is supposed to look at.

Sofia grew taller, and her jumps do not resemble Satoko anymore. What a pleasant surprise. What I have found common in Russian junior ladies is that they improve a lot in the first JGP.season.

I participate in this thread b/c I want to support the two U.S. ladies -- and b/c I would like to learn more about other ladies competing here, such as the reigning junior world champion.

OTT comments about any skaters are not informative in adding to my objective knowledge, but as entertainment, they can be amusing in one way or another ;).

Well..... in the spirit of being informative we probably should note that only one American Lady is actually going to be competing ;)

I get what your meaning is though but TBH I don't understand why you guys are commenting on people's enthusiasm. Why not just let it go? I really don't see anything positive or informative to be gained from it. In a similar way I would argue the same of this whole post :

Also in the spirit of being informative ;):
Two U.S. ladies (Ashley and Gabby) indeed traveled to Yokohama. (See the backstage photo of Ashley and Gabby with the rest of Team USA.)
This thread already has noted many times that Ashley is not competing.
Most of the posts came before we knew the reason that Ashley is not competing.
I for one remain supportive of both U.S. ladies in Yokohama: [1] Ashley :) [unable to compete :(] and [2] Gabby :). Hope others feel the same way.

Some people on this forum ridicule certain skaters all the time without anyone batting an eyelash but I guess that's acceptable :sarcasm:

I just need to express how much I enjoy watching Amy Lin skate! I really wish the US would have held onto her but the cool thing with her representing TPE is we'll get to see her more frequently in international competition than we would if she was representing America no matter how much the judges want to under appreciate her. :curse:

I watched and, apart from how Marin is an epitome of grace on ice indeed, just how many skaters does Orser have? Does he actually teach them all? How can he even teach when he's away at competitions all season? [ /rethorical question]

All the big coaches got many talented people to help them out.
Some are assistant coaches, some are physical trainers, some are dieticians, some are even therapists.
Nowadays to raise world class skaters, they have to seek out lots of specialists.
So top coaches like Orser are more like CEO of corporations.
Besides them, they got jumping specialists, spin specialists, step/skating specialists to teach their pupils.
When main coaches are away to company certain skaters for competitions, they take care rest of skaters.
In the occasions like multiple skaters of their camps have to go to different competitions,
A main coach travels with a main, or higher priority skater, and assistant coaches take care of others.

This is the very new interview with Orser, and he stated that he has a good team that he can trust,
and the clue works for other skaters when he is away.

just curious, do coaches like brian orser make a good living from coaching so many students and hiring so many assistants?

From what I know, it's the Toronto Cricket Club that employs all the specialists, assistants and coaches, including Brian who I believe is a director of some sort apart from being a coach. I imagine that the club pays Orser very well since he's the big name which attracts students to the school.

I see, thanks.

Are junior ladies even allowed to 3a in the SP?

Yes, but only as part of the jump combination. They have to do a required solo double axel.

Mao Asada sometimes did 3A+2T in her SP as a junior, and also as a senior before they changed to rule to allow it as the solo axel.

I thought she looked a bit sluggish, and labored to get into and out of her jumps. As the pace of the music picked up, her lack of speed became more and more noticeable; at times she got a bit behind the music. I don't recall last year's Alisa being slow.
