2008-2009 Programs by Discipline

Thanks for those!!!!

I love Suguri's program, it's beautifully choreographed (except for that one face-caressing-gesture). I just hope she will have a season she can be proud of. She is amazing to watch.

Ando looks good. The program is nothing really special in my opinion, I am not a big fan of the music either. But I thought that she interpreted the music well, most notably during the footwork section.

Oda has some kind of inborn bravura, it's great to watch. The program is building up nicely towards the end, the footwork is enjoyable and I admire his fast creative spins. What really really bothers me is that entrance into the Triple Axel... All in all I am still a Takahashi-girl, but Oda is not too bad either.

Miki looked healthy and in very good shape, I hope she can stay that way through the season. Beautiful music, but I would have liked to see her use other pieces form the soundtrack as well. I have to say I like Bebe's version better, but Miki's fotwork was great, a lot like Mao's footwork form last season. Very light and flowing.

Fumie had nice speed, but she needs to stop popping jumps if she ever wants a change at the world team.

Latest word on Carolina K's programs from her official site:

Black Swan Pas de Deux from Swan Lake
Just hope she doesn't imitate the ballet steps or worse the story. Odile is a temptress, and Caroline is hardly at an age to even know what that means.

Joe, Carolina Kostner is 21. She is definitely old enough to play Odile.

Did you think Caroline Zhang? I did for a minute there..

he he , I did think it was Zhang, but now that you mention Kostner, I do not think she can get into the role either because it takes a good actress. I do not think we have actress/skaters in figure skating without being hammy a la Witt. But young people see it as genuine artistic, so who am I to say no.

There are ways to bring the essence of Odile to the front but I would prefer a skater to do something original and not connected to Swan Lake.

Black Swan Pas de Deux from Swan Lake

The Black Swan Pas de Deux is certainly one of the most dramatic and passionate selections from the entire ballet. Sasha used a part in her Swan Lake interpretation in 2003. Carolina other than often wearing bird-like dresses does not have what it takes to perform to this music. It is a very beautiful and challenging selection, but deficiently a balletic piece. Sorry, but i can't see it.

yes, i think she is a smart girl and knows what it means. Most ballerinas who play the part of Odile are not much older than her.

As for Mao....that SP looks like another masterpeice. Beautiful music, the footwork is great and she really seems to be sensititve to the music. She will still have to sell me Masquerade, but I am not going to under estimate this girl with that coach!

I reluctantly agree. I think she knows what and how to be a temptress. It seems that girls regardless of young age seem to have this ability in this "day and age."

It makes me think of Johnny having a portrayal of a swan or even the Jesus depiction - if that is what it was. I do not think he would have the foggiest empathy of the plight of the Jews. * Shrugs *

I think that the ability to act a part on ice really requires only certain mannerisms be mimmicd to a degree. Much of that is the ability to convey the choreographer's vision. Yes that wonderful scoring aspect that brings so much controversy to many regarding fairness and validation to our beloved sport.;)

And sweet and lovely as Caroline is, I think she definitely has Diva "down pat." And "acting the part" of a temptress is not that big of a challenge for her.

I do agree with Joe she really has not the "true" understanding. But I am sure she will "fake it" as well as anyone. It will just seem totally out of place to see her sweet little face trying to be so. Of course maybe every boy she goes to school with might completely disagree. Maybe she is a "little tempter." * Shrugs *

OK, one more time, just for the record: it is 21-year-old Carolina Kostner who is skating to the the Black Swan music, not Caroline Zhang.

Caroline Zhang will be stating to "Sleeping Beauty." She'll be waiting for Prince Charming to awaken her with a chaste kiss, not trying to seduce Siegfried.

thanks for the reminder, MM!!!!!

I haven't been keeping up with it all... she's skating to Tchi... yeah not gonna try to spell it today lol she'll be skating to the 'traditional' version of Sleeping Beauty, yes? (the one that Angela Nikodinov skated to a few years back that was just wonderful  )

Thanks for the clarification. My Mind I tell ya.... *zheesh*

Sleeping Beauty, how perfect.:agree:

I read Joes "Caroline" and did not equate that I had just read DLs "Carolina"

Seanibu's bad.

But anyway you look at it I still think I am correct:p

Most ballerinas know the entire black swan pas de deux choreography and have seen countless prima ballerinas dance it, and not all those prima ballerinas were good at it. btw, the young chorines are in an atmosphere of total ballet discipline and not worried about convoluted spins. They are waiting to go on and do it.

Ah, the youth it is so wasted on the young.

There's a rumor over at FSUniverse that Tessa and Scott might have a FD set to Pink Floyd music.
If this is true, then I am both delighted and curious about this choice. It's very different from anything they've done and so I definitely welcome it (I like trying new things!). But at the same time, if there was a team from Canton I'd imagine skating to Pink Floyd I would suspect Meryl and Charlie before Tessa and Scott.
I am kinda hoping the rumor is true though:rock:.

Pink Floyd? Delobel/Schoenfelder are going to have that in their FD as well if my memory serves me right. Can't remember what tune though.

In an article on icenetwork on the Canadian High Performance Camp, it says Virtue and Moir are skating their FD to Pink Floyd.

Shawn Sawyer is using Another Brick in the Wall (also Pink Floyd) for his SP.
