No no no!!!! I thought we could finally have a year without carmen. Not liking this modernized idea either. well i will have to see it to do it justice.

I forgot if Miki has chosen music yet. Will she be keeping Carmen?

Like Carmen Jones, this music will emanate from New Orleans with a Basin Street Blues beat. Moir will be the perfect State Trooper sucumbing to Virtue who will not be a virtuous lady of the night.
Oh - Beat Out that Rythym on a Drum Hope my guess is wrong.

Joe, not Virtue and Moir, the Canadian dancers. Dube & Davison the Canadian pair team have chosen Carmen. Let us hope that inoculates V&M from picking it.

Well now that we have Carmen and Bolero....it's only a matter of time before we have the announcement of who is doing Romeo and Juliet this year.

:banging:

well it could be worse. It least we have yet to hear about a Tosca or a Sherezade and even if soembody does Romeo and Juliet it is better than most years when we have 4 skaters doing it!

Doris - I'm blearyeyed from staying up late watching the Summer Olys. Of course, it's the Canadian Pairs team. Makes sense, it lends itself to Pairs, more than Dance. btw has any Dance team used some clips of Carmen?

Gregory and Ptukhov, imo did an excellently interpreted R&J with the ballet versiion rather than that sugary movie version.

Oh well, at least it's an improvement. They actually have a new program this season. I can't imagine what a modern Carmen would sound like though.

YuNa Kim has a long program choreographed to "Scheherezade" (the music cut has already been released by the Korean media), also Katrina Hacker will use this music for the LP. Nobunari Oda has already debuted a Gala number to "E Lucevan le Stelle" from "Tosca" (a modernized version, actually sounds quite original). Na-Young Kim will skate to "Romeo and Juliet". Brittney Rizuo will skate to "Carmen Fantasy", and there is a rumour that Miki will keep her "Carmen" LP (I hope she does, I LOVE the music cut and choreography, but because of her injuries last season she never performed this program to its full potential (though she came close to it at Nationals)). :)

Actually I don't care what music the skater skates to, as long as the music cut is good, pleasant to listen to, has good choreo and matches the skater's style. :)

they do it all the time too

Mostly recently Navka / Kostamarov 2006 Olympics FD, fine except for the puzzling section where Roman does the hokey pokey.

My favorite ice dance version was probably Lang/Tchernyshev 2002 OD-I prefer the US Nationals performance, but it's not on youtube. Here's the Olympics performance:

The first ice dance couple I remember using it was Bestemianova & Bukin FD, although I'm sure others have used it. I don't like their 1985 version, particularly the 'air guitar' fake skating in the lifts. Here's Europeans:

Winkler & Lohse used it too in 2002:

Usova & Platov, Volozhinskaya & Svinin used it too but I didn't find videos.

Joannie Rochette new SP is: Summer Time

Don't know what her FP is yet.

Great program, very mature, and nicely choreograph. She has a natural style for Jazz.
