I love "Musetta's Waltz," I'd be ecstatic if they used it.

D&W begin with La Boheme then go into La Traviata. It is the same piece of music K&O used for La Traviata, but no vocals. But I did not see the full run-through. Golden Waltz is in the middle of the routine.

Oboy! Two consumptive dying opera ladies in one program, Mimi and Violetta. I'm intrigued that they've chosen Verdi and Puccini. Wonder how they'll interpret the music. Meryl will be a wonderful dramatic heroine, and Charlie a splendid swain.

It seems the most likely. They didn't really work on the beginning of the SD when I was there. Charlie just told me they were starting with a minute of music from La Boheme.
There were 5 other dance teams on the ice at the same time - all of whom were doing sections of their various programs and the music tape for all teams is set up on a single tape so certain sections can be played by a push of the button. Sometimes you are not sure which team's music is playing.

I can't be the only one who read that as "Charlie a splendid swan,"..... can I?

I hope to heck they do not use cha-cha; it doesn't come across particularly well as showing the character of the dance because of the retrograde step. I once watched a whole raft of these from 1981, and I was no fan of any of them, including T&D's to Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White, which won that segment of the competition.

And I hope it isn't one of Igor's rather academic Latin dances that he loves so much. I hope V&M have added something to the concept so it's a complete surprise, and that the actual music will not be another darn runthrough of Libertango, despite the fact that I am sure that they would do a great job with it.

Doris, if you remember, you replied here to my message stating that I would like to see Tessa and Scott skate to some fast paced latin rythms, when I found out they will do latin. Now, that we know they won't do cha-cha, rather samba/rhumba/samba. I would like to know your opinion about their choice. I personally am very content, techically samba is also difficult on its own and is very exciting, a departure from the romantical/etherial style they have been known for in the last few years. The insertion of the rhumba gives them and the audience a breather, I think is a smart choice overall. I hope they worked with some very good choreographers...

I happened on an American magazine (maybe it's Canadian) called Dance International, which has Virtue and Moir on the cover. Here, if you scroll down, you'll see it.

Tessa is en pointe! in the black tulle romantic-length tutu that looks like her competition costume. The magazine is a bit expensive, so I resisted buying it for just the one article, but maybe some of you dance mavens already subscribe and can report on it--or maybe someone goes to a university with a dance department that gets issues in their library. In any case, it looked intriguing.

BTW look out for the Shibs - they will be very competitive this season. Wonderful light quality to their skating so suitable to their style. Maia grew almost three inches stretched out and looks much more like a beautiful young lady .

Wow! She must be growing like weed!! Last time she gave an interview at Champ camp, end of August, she said she grew almost 2", she got one more inch in few weeks since! She must have growth hormone spurt! Good for her!

Coleen, you are funny

What I meant in breather, is the contrast between an exuberant samba rythm, which could bring the audience along the ride and the rhumba which is sultry, but the sexual tension between the male and female gives the viewer a different, less upbeat feeling.

And by the way, you mention their rhumba "is sultry", well, as far as I know they haven't done one since 2006 (their OD) and that wasn't quite sultry, it was more juniorsh, not surprising, considering they were teenagers.
Nonetheless, I am expecting them a mature chemistry this time around, as good as it could be. I am raising the bar very high for them, as i am sure will be the judges. From here on, they will have to skate like Olympc champions, anything less would be dissapointing.

I am very estatic about russian pairs this year. Volosozhar/Trankov and Gerboldt/Enbert look good for pairs who have only been together for a short period of time. I really like Martyusheva/Rogonov as well, but they are so inconsistent. I also like Iliushechkina/Maisuradze's SP.

For dance, my favorite program has to be Bobrova/Soloviev's FD. I love everything about it! I also like Ilinykh/Katsalapov's programs. I like that they tried a different style this year. The only thing is that I would have liked to see them introduce more new lifts.

Based on the Russian video tape of the Short Dance, I'm not impressed with any of the senior programs - not one has a natural transition to GW some are just awful. Now that the ISU has begun with the most difficult CD for the Pattern Dance and will most likely go to Tango Romantica next season, after that what? Go to easier Pattern Dances? Think this is a 2- year phenom and will go back to OD for 2013.
