I stumbled across these on youtube. The small medal ceremony was held on this random tiny platform with ice on top? At least, that's how it appears to me?

Can anyone shed some light on this- I've searched archives on here and googled, but haven't found any info on it. It seems so unnecessary.

At major ISU events, you get a "small medal" for finishing in the top three of a segment (e.g. the short or long program). Mirai is a Worlds Gold (Small) Medalist for winning the SP at the 2014 World Championships.

EDIT: Mirai at 2010 Worlds

But the ice?? A tiny, tiny patch of ice? :eeking: There was a time when France was extra about these things. Now they give out plastic stars. Oh the good old days.

Yeah, I know what the small medal ceremony is- just cannot comprehend the mini ice rink that they held it on! Why? How did they make it? Why can't I find any article mentioning it? So confusing!

It's too bad you don't have the ladies from that year. That was Leonova's Pirate Year. She won the SP and then was beaten in the FP by Carolina.

Is the point of the thread to express confusion?
AFAIK/IIRC, it was synthetic ice. Is that the source of your confusion?

[If(??) the point of the thread is to complain, I want no part of the complaining.
At a lot of other ISU Championships in recent years, small medal ceremonies have been held in the press room or in a rather nondescript public area off ice. The tone often has been quite perfunctory, IMO.
Nice was trying to do something a little different, and I have no problem with the attempt to make things a little more interesting.]

Regarding Mirai, you mean that she won the small gold medal for the SP at 2010 Worlds.
