:rolleye: did I ever said in here she is fat or overweight ?? never
I said she has weight issues and needs to control it by having 1 meal a day for effective quick weight loss

as others have pointed out, her career is going the Racahel Flatt route, that is alarming
I want her to stay in FS for a long time unlike what happened to Flatt

This is a very disturbing post. One meal a day for effective quick weight loss? And Rachael Flatt left skating (at least temporarily) because she was injured, not because of any weight issue. I'm assuming this is just a troll, which means I shouldn't even be responding!

Mishin only has himself to blame if her career ends early because of her weight like Flatt did

Flatt's career "ended" because of injury and also because she was a full-time student at Stanford--and I'm sure she would have been studying just as hard were it any other university. It's very difficult to get into fighting form if you're off studying hard and learning skills to save the world.

"After nationals last year, I took some time off, and then I re-injured my back last summer," she said. "I've had really severe tendinitis for the last two or three seasons, and it really has not gone away. My body was just telling me to take it easy. It was definitely necessary. I feel much better."
...
"At this point, I'm obviously very busy with school and everything," she said. "At the same time, skating is near and dear to my heart, and I'd like to be involved as long as I possibly can. If I'm able to train without pain, that would be incredible. If I can do that, I would definitely consider competing through next year, but my health and academics come first; I wouldn't be at Stanford if that weren't the case."

As I suspected, this version of Nocturne is not nearly as good as the 2007 version.

Only a brief clip of Mirai's program was shown, but it will be her most mature work to date and could be very special.

This isn't the first post advocating this - more like the fifty-eleventh. What's most disturbing is that I don't think sky_fly20 is a troll, but actually sincerely believes this is a good idea! I just feel so :bang: about it all, that sometimes I don't know what to say. I'm glad that there are still people with the energy to respond, however, and combat this "idea" - wouldn't it be horrible if even one teenage girl read that and thought: "Hmmmm.... One meal per day? Maybe that's a good way to lose weight... "

you missed one thing; Rachael Flatt had many injuries accumulated from her weight gain, I am simply giving Tuk precaution so she can stay in FS longer she was one of my favorite skaters

and excuse me but 1 medal per day, with no carbs with a little protein and banana definitely helps people engaging in sports not on elite level and water with cucumber, lemon and mint wouldn't be bad either :)

Anyone who believes one meal a day is a good idea for an athlete needs a reality check. :disapp:
Body fat has this amazing quality that it rolls and jiggles - the young ladies mentioned in this thread are a long way away from "jiggling". Significantly loosing weight would just cut into their muscle mass and negatively impact their jumping ability.

Plus, (just IMHO a photographer) ladies like Rachael, Eliza or Caro-Z (post growth spurt) might look a bit curvatious on the screen because they have very tiny feet. It would really help their body proportions if they gave up on tights-over-boots or flesh colored boots, as they make feel look smaller.

Thanks for THE ICE links! Lovely performances. Too bad most of the programs were cut short or skipped. :( I looked forward to seeing Satoko Miyahara's and Adelina's new SPs. I hope they will be included in the full broadcast.

I love Mao's SP - her movements and expression really improved since 2006. Love the new layback and the speed toward the end of the StSq. It's a shame some parts of the SP were cut out (steps into 3L and part of the step sequence) - the resulting musical mish-mash sounds quite weird to my ears. I look to forward to seeing the whole program skated on a normal rink (as Mao said that she nearly gave up on the idea of debuting the SP in a show, as the rink was quite small and she had some trouble with adjusting the choreo).
I wish the performance from Osaka could be broadcasted, as the fans who attended the show said she skated her SP more freely there, and with more solid jumps (and a new dress :) ). Sadly, it seems like thre was no cameras present during the morning show (only during the evening one, and Mao skated only her Smile EX then).

As usual, Mao & Jeff's pair number was fab. They would make a great ice dance team

How do you know that she's overweight for a figure skater? What does that even mean?

It means that a figure skater has to be fit, not to have fat on his/her belly as Rachel Flatt and Tuk. The problem is obviously the diet, because it is clear that they are exercising enough. :slink: It has nothing to do with being muscular, udmurt, etc. Why do you think that many skaters who came back after a retirement period are losing weight? Because even if they are very fit for normal people they clearly weight more that it is supposed to. IMO Liza's skating changed and IMO it is because of the weight. If weight isn't affecting her skating and her health at all, well, she can have 100000 pounds, I don't care because it is not a beauty contest. :scowl:

Mao looks so lovely here  She just seems to float across the ice, especially with this new costume that actually seems to accentuate her best artistic qualities (unlike some of Tat's other over-designed, un-edited concoctions, siiigh). Ever since Mao announced her programs, I really *wanted* to fall totally in love with this new version of Nocturne because I hadn't been fond of her programs at the last Olympics but that cut at about 1:38 seems a little wonky... maybe it's just me?

(And since this other... side conversation seems to be continuing, still :bang: about some dangerously uninformed opinions -- not facts -- about health.)

I don't think Tuktamysheva is overweight (even for a figure skater.) She is just a very short girl with strong, muscular thighs.

As for Mao's new SP, I much preferred her SP from last season. This one is a bit boring.

(...)that cut at about 1:38 seems a little wonky... maybe it's just me?

It is wonky, because for some reason Chukyo TV decided to cut out some parts of the program (steps into 3L and transitions into StSq, and a part of the StSq). They tried to cover the parts where the program was cut by adding a fade-in between the cut part of the music, and it ended up sounding weird.
The full version of the program will be aired on August 18th, IIRC. :)

ETA: Actually, it looks like the Osaka version was aired today:

That's surprising, I read that no cameras were rolling on that day.
Anyway, there's no annoying music skip during the step sequence. :) Love everything but the flying camel - I think a flying sit would suit this music better, but it seem the new rules made the flying sit rather unpopular. The combo spin and the layback are gorgeous here, though. :)

Mao looks gorgeous and I think I'm finally starting to become a fan. As for the weight issue, it's a delicate topic. You do not want to tell a girl going through puberty that's she's fat and has to drastically lose weight, especially in a demanding and body conscious sport like figure skating. That's just asking for an eating disorder. However, you can't deny that the weight doesn't effect their jumps and beautiful body lines can lead to higher scores. For skaters not blessed with svelte physiques resistant to puberty like Mao and Yuna, they have to strike a balance between keeping the body fat to a minimum without compromising muscle mass and energy levels. That's where dieticians come in. And no one in their right mind is going to tell a training high level athlete to eat one meal a day almost devoid of carbohydrates. As for skaters who are commonly referred to as "fat" such as Rachel, Liza and Caroline Zhang, their body proportions and configuration have a lot to do with it, such as short legs, long torso, short neck, rounded shoulders, etc. So I don't think it's for anyone to assess whether they are fit or not other than those responsible for training them.

Mao's dress in the second version of the program is one of the best dresses I've ever seen in figure skating. I hope she'll wear this in her competitive.

And yet sky_fly20 is still here and others have been banned.

Dunno what Liza or Artur have ever done to sky_fly20, but she abuses them routinely with a passion. They could both win Olympic gold and she's still call them fat and useless.

And she bashes Sotnikova and a lot of other skaters. I can't even enjoy their fan threads. Constructive criticism is one thing but this is just bashing. The ignore button only does so much.........

I don't know... there is a troll-ish quality to the posts. And it's supposed to consist of lemons and cucumbers? That is so off the wall that I think it's just intended to provoke a response.
