Hypothetically, can Courtney still qualify for the Olympics if she's competing internationally as a junior?

I think the answer is Yes.

To field the most competitive team, U.S. Figure Skating’s ICMS [International Committee Management Subcommittee] will take into consideration the performances and results from the events outlined below to determine athletes who will have the most performance impact at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. The ICMS, and the International Committee’s approval process of the ICMS’ recommendations, will take into consideration placement, performance (to include performance data derived from the athlete’s detailed result sheets from the competitions listed below – see Attachment D) and the competitive field at the following events in priority order:

a. 2014 U.S. Figure Skating Championships
b. 2013 ISU Grand Prix Final
c. 2013 ISU World Figure Skating Championships
d. 2013 Grand Prix Series Competitions (six competitions)
e. 2013 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships
f. 2013 U.S. Figure Skating Championships
g. 2013 World Junior Figure Skating Championships
h. 2013 ISU Junior Grand Prix Final​

The names of the athletes/teams placing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th in the Championship events at the 2014 U.S. Figure Skating Championships will be placed into the pool of athletes/teams being considered for the 2014 Olympic Team. Consideration will be given to add additional athletes/teams to the pool by reviewing the events above in a priority order and adding other athletes/teams due to extenuating circumstances as approved by the ICMS. Discussion on, and the selection of the pool of athletes identified by the ICMS, will be limited to the competitions listed above in priority order.​

Coming off her podium finish in Omaha, Hicks is open about being one of the prime contenders for one of the United States' three ladies spots in Sochi.

"That's my ultimate goal this season: to make the Olympic team," she said. "I can't wait to get started with the season."

Evita for Hicks? That's going to be interesting...she doesn't fit the stereotype at all, maybe she'll be skating to the upbeat parts though.

Maybe this will be her break out program (did anyone think Salome for Kwan was a good idea before seeing the program)? Cassar has a wonderful understanding of musical phrasing and beautiful body line, so I am HOPEFUL some of his skill will rub off onto Hicks...

Courtney still skates like a bulldozer/bull in a china shop so it should be really interesting to see how she interprets the music and the character.

I don't recall Akiko's SP music but, big shock, yet another warhorse for the FS. Nothing wrong with that of course...I pretty much expect all of the top ladies to go with something well-known this year. Better safe than sorry.

Judging basing on what they said in the interview, I think it can be a really good FS! I don't know if it will be enough to bring her to the Olympics (she would need to have her TES 65+ at least), but I hope she finally makes it to the JGPF! I'm even more interested about her SP, though: I don't know anything about this film, I want to see how they can bring on the ice such a story...

Isn't Akiko's SP music is the same as Maria Butyrskaya's amazing 1999-2000 SP?

EDIT: Never mind, Butyrskaya's music was "Scene d'amour". Akiko's is an Edith Piaf song (so Robin Cousin's tweet to her a while ago about "La Vie En Rose" makes sense).

Jason's "Riverdance" LP is fabulous. I love how he skates to the music and feels each note! Even though the selections of music are somewhat overused he makes them seem fresh!

Akiko can probably (definitely) do the same with "Phantom" - although I wish she had chosen nicer music...

Excellent skates by Brown. I wish he would evoke more irish steps and postures into his FD, but the steps are phenomenal (and the B/K hydroblading!). That SP is also amazing. Very well done and excited to see how these develop over the season.

I'm a bit miffed by people saying that the hydroblading is a "B/K" thing. No, it's a JASON thing. He's been hydroblading for years. In fact the original Senior version of Liebestraume that he showed at Glacier Falls last year (before they had to rework it to encompass the 3A) had a hydroblade-Russian split-back spiral sequence that was very cool.

Thank you! Riverdance is going to be amazing. I absolutely loved the first straightline step sequence. It gives him a chance to show off his musicality during the build-up of the music.

Its a great first outing. I like how to just did doubles instead of falling and losing the performance. a true artist.
I can't wait to see him fly through that circular step near the end by the end of the season. If he skates that out to its potential at Nationals he'll bring down the house. I wish there was a little more toe dancing though...

Yes, he has. Keiji has been competing with left thigh injury the latter half of 2012-13 season, which forceed him to withdraw from 2013 Junior Worlds. And around the time of the above performance, he has not fully healed yet, I think.

Thanks for posting the video, snoopy! This Dr. Zhivago is choreographed by Nanami Abe, Yuzu's former coach/choreographer, isn't it? Keiji and his coach have decided to move up and compete on the senior circuit this season. Good luck to Keiji! :yay:
