2013-2014 Programs by Discipline

Gracie said that the choreography was still very challenging for her. On the upside, she has another three months to refine, and Marina won't let her fall too far behind in terms of artistry.

I think the beginning and ending music cuts were well-suited to her. The step sequence wasn't as insipid as people are making it out to be, IMO, but I do agree that the shift in style was slightly jolting. If you can tell that she has terrible interpretation throughout when I can barely see her at times in the video, great. Otherwise, give her more time to work through it. It's July -- I expected progress, not a miracle. She won't be Yuna or Mao next season, and that's fine.

Well, am I the only one who actually likes this program? :o: I don't think that this is a masterpiece and I DON'T LIKE THE DRESS, please change it!! But... her arm movements have improved a lot and, comparing the choreography and the use of the body to her Life is Beautiful FS there is an enormous improvement! She has still to work on the choreography and practice the program, but I think that the spins are wonderfully placed, fitting the music, and the ChSq is very well-choreographed, too; I think that she has a 2A+3T planned in the second half at 2:22. The weakest part of the program (almost running from jump to jump) is between that combo and the flip, I think that they should add some transitions there...

It's so hard to tell from the fancam, although I am so grateful that the fan posted it.

My overall impression is positive. There is much to be commended in this program. It's classical, but not generic, and there is some fire in it.

It seems a more mature program with improved presentation. As I said, it's hard to tell with certainty... but I expect we'll see higher PCS this year. I'm interested in seeing how this program develops.

Maybe this is dumb, but how do we know that Lysacek's program is "Black Swan" or if its "Swan Lake"? Do we have to call it "Black Swan"?

To be honest, Gold's LP looks like a female fighter marching to the battlefield rather than a sleeping beauty.

Maybe I am confusing him with Johnny Weir but didn't Evan skate to some swan type song and he had feathers on his Vera Wang or something?

I think Lysacek may have referred to it as Black Swan. I'm not 100% sure on that. Either way, he'll probably wear black. Just lay off the fake tan this time, buddy. And the glittery snakes.

EDIT:

And I believe the feathers were on a costume for "Firebird".

No, you're not the only one, FSGMT. I actually think this program has a lot of potential and I can tell she's really making an effort to pay attention to her body movements in the program.

And I agree the elements are well placed, I especially like when she does the spiral to the highlights of the music.

I think that give it a few more months of practice and we'll see even more improvement in the coming months.

I haven't seen the video of Gracie yet does she seem under control or is she still wild? She sometimes gets going so fast that things feel rushed and it effects her jumps. She needs to learn what Carolina Kostner did and reign in that speed and not be so hyped up.

Thank you Deedee1 for all your information. I couldn't find the story of Samuragochi on the internet. Do you know if Muku also is the violinist playing the Sonatina in the link you posted before? In that case I find her progress remarkable, because it seems to me very difficult to make any nuances without fingers and a wrist. Unless she has a more complex prothesis now. In the vid with Mao she even had much difficulty to bow straight... In my ears the piece sounds like a heavy one, so I cannot observe special attention from the composer to her handicap.
I am really very curious about Dai's new program. I think that it's not an easy choice, but that 's what I always like about his programs, except the one that Morozov made for him this year...

My pleasure! and I thank YOU for responding to my question! :) Sorry, I mis-wrote the young girl's name: her name is Miku (not Muku) Okubo. :o:
I don't think the violinist in that link is Miku. Should be Yasuko Otani, who seems to closely work with Samuragochi by doing tours together, because her name is listed on top in Samuragochi's album 'Chaconne': http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B0064FF1...URL=http://blueskywhitecloud7.blog93.fc2.com/
Here is the link where Otani actually plays Chaconne: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rv6lXsrq1Hk
Wiki on Samuragochi, though only available in Japanese, sigh...: http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/佐村河内守
And link to Nippon Columbia on Samuragochi, though again in Japanese only: http://columbia.jp/samuragochi/

At Sun Valley, Evan stated that the SP music was from the Black Swan movie soundtrack. One section of music is the coda from the Black Swan pas de deux from Swan Lake.

I just got a chance to watch Gracie's LP from Skate Milwaukee. My initial feeling, after watching it just once--I like it! It was hard to see details, but still, the program held my interest throughout. I like the music and the choreography. It's more dramatic and serious than last year's LP, but not overwhelming. My favorite part was the footwork on one foot in the middle section. Nice. The spins are indeed well placed and pretty. Love her speed throughout, and the few jumps looked really good, except for the hesitation in the 3Lz/3toe. Maybe it could use a little more oomph at the end, but I'm sure they'll work on that. I think this program could be really really good by Nationals.

From the new article on Zhiganshina & Gaszi, their SD is at least partly on I’m Happy by the Gorillaz and a waltz.

From Lynn Rutherford's IN report on Skate Detroit:

Moore-Towers/Moscovitch

SP: Raphael Beau's Mötley Crüe choreographed by Mark Pillay -- same SP music as last season
(If I understand the IN article correctly, M-T/M had worked also on a new SP to Benny Goodman's "Sing, Sing, Sing" but decided not to use it at Skate Detroit.)

FS: choreographed by Pillay to music from La Strada
(The pair also had worked on two FS programs.)

DeeDee Leng/Timothy LeDuc SP: Peter Gabriel's "The Feeling Begins"

Pairs

Linday Davis & Rockne Brubaker USA
SP Latin/Tango
LP

Tarah Kayne & Danny O'Shea USA
SP From Russia with Love soundtrack, choreo by Jim Peterson
LP Don Quixote - ballet by Minkus, choreo by Jim Peterson

From the same IN article re SPs:

- "Tarah Kayne and Danny O'Shea ... performed a high-energy James Bond short choreographed by Peterson to music from Skyfall."

- "Lindsay Davis and Rockne Brubaker ... impressed in their short, with sophisticated choreography by Zoueva to a medley of "Petite Fleur" and Louis Armstrong."
