Sounds like the Canadians were the class of the field, as expected, with a 7+point cushion in the short.

I was so pleased to read of the nice outing by Z/B, who renewed an interest in pairs skating for me last year. Sounds like their growth is continuing, both technically and in the chemistry department. I thought they were charming last year, and hope to see a link to their new programs soon.

Alex Johnson

My short program this year is to the famous Led Zeppelin song "Stairway to Heaven". It's performed by Rodrigo y Gabriela and it has a flamenco feel to it. I absolutely love it. My free skate is to a variety of film soundtracks, but has a very dark feeling to it. It opens briefly with the beginning of a remix of the "Nightmare On Elm Street" theme song and then goes immediately into two different waltzes. The ending piece is titled "Bernini's Angels".

The A.L. Webber variations is an interesting choice:

Andrew Lloyd Webber and younger brother Julian Lloyd Webber were always very close, but their two different careers (a rock musical composer and a classical cellist) meant that a collaboration seemed unlikely. It wasn't until Julian beat his brother in a bet on a Leyton Orient football match that Andrew was forced to write his cello work.

As his subject, Andrew chose the theme of Paganini's 24th caprice and added 23 variations for cello and rock band. The work premiered at the 1977 Sydmonton Festival with rock band Colosseum II, featuring Gary Moore, Jon Hiseman and Don Airey being joined by Barbara Thompson (Sax, Flute), Rod Argent, (Piano, Synthesizer, Keyboards) and Julian Lloyd Webber (Cello). It was subsequently rearranged and recorded in 1978. It reached number 2 in the album charts.

I don't like it. I really hope we'll see M/K, S/M or S/Z on the team. All 3 teams have a brighter future ahead IMO. My personal preference would probably be M/K.
Best news for me, M-T/M keeping their SP. YEY!! I am their new fan since Worlds where I felt they should have switched places with S/S in terms of overall placement. I really want a medal for them in Sochi but being Canada number 2 won't help.

:think: There are some good and some bad things I noticed: the pattern dance is well-integrated in the dance, it doesn't look like a pattern dance in the middle of a completely different dance, but I don't like the vocal parts and... oh, it's SO Russian!

Well, I don't really like it I didn't feel anything watching it, just jump/strange arm movements/jump/cross-overs/cross-overs/jump/spin... I don't know, but the best part of it were the last 30 seconds, maybe he doesn't really feel the music yet, but if she skates it like this on the international stage I don't expect his PCS to be really high... The choreography of the first 4 minutes just looks completely unrelated to the music
