2014-2015 GPF Ladies Short Program 12/11

I'm fully convinced all the singles skaters had a secret meeting before the start of the season and plotted out a strategy to generate maximum stress and anxiety to all skating fans:

"Yeah, I'll take first at Competition X and 4th at Competition Y. Then I'll botch a jump I NEVER miss at the GPF. That'll really drive them crazy!"

Ah well, fingernails are way overrated anyway (gnaw, gnaw).

:)

I think when an event ends GS should just close the thread and open a new one called dumping ground. :drama:

There was one judge who only gave -2 to Pogo's and Radionova's falls. One gave 0 GOE for Liza's stepped-out lutz. Pogo had no preceding steps on her 3Lz because it was planned to be a combo, but only got -1 from 5 judges. Isn't that supposed to be -3?

What on earth is with the GOEs here?

There are plenty of times where judges will only give -2 on a fall if there are other aspects that would normally result in positive GOE. Also the GOE on jumps w/o preceding steps can be slack as well, unfortunately :sarcasm:

I hope Pogo gets to fix her 3Lz problem. It's been quite a long time since we've seen her last land a triple lutz cleanly.....

And on a random note, does anyone else really like Julia's music?

Me! I have it downloaded and I even have an edited version that I made thinking that, just in case Yulia couldn't keep up with the music, she could use something like mine (90% speed without one of the catchy parts) :slink:

I don't get Liza's skating. Yes she has nice jumps but average speed minimal ice coverage and poor spins and she still gets over 67 points? And it's not like she's particularly elegant either.

She has actually improved a lot in terms of speed, power and ice coverage. I have this theory that she doesn't cover enough ice because the rink she trains in SPB is smaller than a normal rink, or that she never gets to skate to the side of the rink because there will be kids, or something to that effect. This season she just seems better. I think Liza still have rooms to improve, but she has a style that's unique to her, a female plushy style, which, seriously, has never been done...On one hand her programs do look all the same, on the other, I can't imagine her skating to anything else than these programs.

One bad habit of Anna is that when she has a fall, she would look so shocked herself and for a few seconds it almost appears she wants to give up the entire performance.

She didn't look slow to me on the night, not compared to her opponents at any rate. Some of her spins aren't fast, but her positions are solid (better than someone like Anna, who can be fast but is also sloppy). And no, she's not elegant in the Yuna Kim way, so to speak... but does everyone have to be? She brings passion and energy, which is just as good in my book.

I might actually have Yulia first in the SP... but that's due to edge rules, not the judges.

i think that explains a lot

Julia's flip (with second half bonus!) was worth less than Ashley's. Some weird rules out there...

just watched Liza and JuliaLip's video. Liza is selling it, about JuliaLip, she is not listening to music this time (or is it because the music is not in syn with the video?). I thought she actually listened to her music during this SP during her previous 2 outings. and about her 2A, if her 2A can get +2 then, SoYoun's final 2A in her LP should get +4 across the board according to bullets.

It's not funny at all. Go and check the bullets for GoE's. Jumps are not about height only.

So true on the height. In fact the bullet is good height and distance and is only one of eight factors. But that doesn't stop fans from complaining about +GOE for "small" of "low" jumps.

I'm glad that Yulia got back to 3Lz+3t, altought a shame about the flip
And she losing levels in spins is so, so wrong
