Congrats to all the medalists.
At this point the only thing I can really say is "Why Patrick? Why?"![]()
I'm sure he will be asking himself that for the next while.

It's just too disappointing today, looking forward to the BEAUTIFUL ladies' skating tomorrow!
I get it Javi repeated the 3S. The other should have been in a combination. Oh Javi you should have had a 2A for the final jump.
I commented because some posters were saying how ugly a skater looked when he was jumping, and I admonished them for being rude. That is all. It reminds me of those "ugly" grimacing Mao videos that were put up, and it's malicious and beyond the pale. I do think Mao and her fans minded. There are also such comments on Akiko's videos, I can't tolerate them. The whole point of the sport is beauty, perfection, the insane efforts to achieve those goals while taking one's body to the hilt attain those goals. If the jump/element fails, that's fine to comment. Making fun of their looks while they are skating is simply malicious.
Actually, it is sad that skaters have to look conventionally beautiful, does it mean that those who do not fit these standards are even more disadvantaged?
You might shrug off such "jokes" but some of us might mind them and speak up. At least these posters know that others do not like such comments and prefer more respect for the skaters.![]()
I think Patrick's problems date back to his coaching change last year. He obviously was having problems on the triple axel at this event. Last year, he was plagued by popped jumps. Wasn't he working with jump specialist Christy Krall before? That was what he needed. He already had the artistry and the skating skills. I am not happy that Hanyu won. His long program was a typical hot mess for him in the big events. He wasn't even on the World podium last year. Patrick is a better skater, in my opinion. I am sad that he was unable to overcome his technical problems (nothing that major; just too many) and, apparently, his nerves.
No you didn't, All high said is he opens his moth really wide, which to me looks like a martial arts cry.
You decided upon yourself that people are being rude to skaters,
Maybe that's touchy subject for you,
But you should damn well believe that if we're here we love and admire ALL skaters and celebrate them,
Even if they did something funny,
Now after i've apologized already for causing you distress,
And others have asked you to bury this subject
is that enough of you ?!
I can't believe how Hanyu HANDED the gold to Patrick and then Patrick just handed it right back.
Like a hot potato.yeah, i feel bad for him. and it was a rude *** thing for joannie to say especially because they were teammates and are presumedly good friends. patrick is hardly the first athlete to choke at the olympics and he won't be the last. he's feeling bad about it already, he doesn't really need his friends mouthing off on twitter about what a terrible skater he is
Because it is counted as the fourth combo as he already did three combo and a solo sal; therefore, when he repeat the sal it is counted as a fourth combo automatically.
Hmm? Must have missed the apology? I am caught and torn between feeling intense disappointment but also the instinct to be protective and defensive of these athletes. Ok, they're ripped apart for their performances, I can understand, it's the nature of this sport. But there's the ugly side to the constant sniping due to rivalries that probably put off a lot of fans. I'd rather throw my support, despite any disappointment, after all. They're all beautiful to me as long as they showed they gave their best.
Why people all of a sudden think this is a vindication of that quadless champion Lysacek. Despite the messiness of the FS, Lysacek's 2010 program would not even be top 5 here.
Aw, I love Misha Ge:

Maybe @jasonbskates wasn't perfect today but boy you did a such a great job on this Olympic ! #Congrats
:agree: He's just so enthusiastic about his fellow skaters, skating in general, life and everything. Why people all of a sudden think this is a vindication of that quadless champion Lysacek. Despite the messiness of the FS, Lysacek's 2010 program would not even be top 5 here.
So instead of inflation, now we have Hanyuflation added into the mix.
The problem is how ridiculously generous judges are in giving out +3 GOE to the "favorites"...and then tying the PCS scores to the tech scores, and then constrain the PCS scoring into a corridor. It creates situations where skaters can get a 30 points cushion where they can fall multiple times and still win. This Olympics shows clearly that the problem isn't Chan, it is the system.
Neither Hanyu nor Chan should have gotten scores that are 10+ points above everyone else in the short. Unless their jumps are something totally extraordinary like Han Yan's 3A, they should not be getting so many +3 GOEs. You have to fly into the jumps with zero preparation and get huge height/distance, land as smoothly as Oda, and hold the edge to get +3 GOE.
Hanyu should not be getting such high scores for his SS and TR and Chan shouldn't not be getting such high scores for his IN and PE.
I have to note that hnayu has landed his quadruple salchov with a good rate in practice... but it seems that in competition ha not be able to land it if not in finlandia
If only Javier change his last jump to 3Lz/ 3F or 3T. He has the most enjoyable performance today. But what if is what if.
Sad for him as well. I really think Zayak rule need to be polished a bit.
The Zayak rule and all its COP complications is F-ing stupid. Skaters have lost countless medals the last decade from it, yet casual fans who dont study protocals and rules dont have a clue when watching. It only alienates and drives more fans from the sport, which is struggling to even stay afloat in North America these days as it is.
