2014 Worlds Men Short Program

I do think Hanyu delivered PCS better than anyone today, you know, after that fall, he stand up right away, no hesitation, and into the character, really believable. And he was smiling as if the fall did not even happen. As for Machida, his GOE on that 3A is quite high for me, but he did deliver it really well. He earned it fairly.
Japanese men field is crazy to watch this year. with such high level.

I hope though that if Machida delivers his usual good but lacklustre Free skate, That his PCS go back to mid 8's,
The SP was really exceptional, But i wouldn't want him to be held if he's not exceptional again.

My personal perfect podium within the realms of possibility right now would be:

If Machida had a bad day, And Fernandez, Hanyu and Verner made it to the podium

Is that Evil ? :\

The thought of Verner medaling makes me salivate, But not at the expense of Fernandez or Hanyu

Yuzuru got UR for his 4T so he lost about 9 to 9.5 on that quad  I'm actually surprised they called UR because it looked okay to me..they were pretty strict I guess.

P.S I'm so glad that this season finally over. Yuzuru's PW looks so lackluster when compared to the past performances, I don't know if its because of the pressure or if its because he's had 5 perfect SP's in a row, but it needs to go ASAP. He got like 3 WR's with that SP and I hope he finally delivers with his LP.

.

Same here, for me it looked a full rotation, but if they called UR then propably it was

I feel you. There's nothing more that he can do with the SP, he already gave what he had to gave. What I really would like to see is a flawless FS, please ;)

Where is Brezina? Come on Michal.

Brezina has withdrawn, per ISU announcement.

Michael Brezina (CZE) has withdrawn from the Men’s event at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2014 in Saitama following the Short Program on Wednesday, citing injury.

Brezina twisted his right ankle on the take-off of a planned triple flip. He received medical attention after his performance and decided to withdraw. “I pulled a ligament and I can’t even put my full weight on the foot. It won’t heal in two days. I could try to push through it, but I might make it worse”, Brezina said.

It's fine, Verner's in a good spot to get those 2 spots, And honestly i don't think they need them next year...

Someone has just upload his performance on youtube so I rewatched it. Is it just me or Hanyu was skating faster than in Sochi? Really faster, with such a speed. I have downloaded his Sochi SP in my computer and it did not look this fast.

Sorry I can't get over the fact Javier got higher skating skills component marks than Takahiko! Why is Takahiko always so underscored in PCs ;(

I still think Javi is overscored in PCs, his SS should never exceed 9! But I guess it is ok since that seems to be the general trend =.=

I haven't re-watched it yet but I did get that feeling watching it live. I know he said that the pressure on him was the good kind, but maybe seeing the crowd when he got onto the ice just got to be too much because it look like to me that he wanted to be anywhere but on that ice. Seems to me that he was just going through the motions and wanted to get it over with as soon as possible. I mean he still really delivered it especially in the last half but not up to his recent SP standards.

And the shock of the night for me was actually during Kevin's. I don't think I've ever seen someones TES drop so much after reviewing...it just kept dropping...and dropping...I was really scared for him tbh. That's why I love the live scoring box, we get to see what the judges are seeing

Han Yan's 3A is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, it's basically a perfect element.
I also wonder how many standing ovations gave the crowd ? they were really incredible, just amazing

Thanks for the info. Weird.

I didn't want to open that bottle once more, but you're totally right Becki. I don't know what Kozuka has done to the judges. I have a small hope that he can sneak in for a medal, but I somehow doubt it.

PCS inflation, like GOE inflation, is getting out of control.

(not targeting anyone specific, just in general among the top skaters)

I am just thinking, winning a gold medal at olympic put so much pressure on the kid, he is still a teenager and has not reached his peak yet. Usually for male skaters, the matue age is 23-26. Come to think of it, Plushenko only got silver when he was 19 (and he did fall in his SP), so he had time to polish his mental state for the come back in 2006. Yagudin also won at 22, a reasonable age.
Anyways, it's true that the kid's win also thanked to PChan for not taking that gold so it can't be helped. :slink:
I do hope he can make a clean come back for his free skate because I am so frustrated with his 4S. Finger cross!!

It's not the end of the World if Yuzuru doesn't win this Worlds. He will have plenty of other chances to become World Champion. He also needs silver in his collection, so that wouldn't be bad. ;) I think a lot of other skaters have/had more to proove than Yuzuru after the Olympics.
