2015-16 Grand Prix assignments

I'm sure it's a dumb question but why do Russian skaters not care for Rostelecom?
Not very good skating at Rostelecom in past, and reaction of "home crowd" to it.
Julia and Anna told in interviews that they don't want to skate at Rostelecom.
Liza always when she has a choice prefers Skate Canada and TEB.

It is only for Ladies.
Men, Pairs and Dance don't "afraid" Rostelecom.

Host may choose any skater of Top5 (on Season Best) substitutes eligible for event.
Substitute mav be not eligible for event (but eligible for other events) if at event are 3 skaters/couples of country of substitute, because more than three of one country are not allowed.

So, that means that from the ladies on the list you posted, the next five skaters in line for a spot are: Karen Chen, Riona Kato, Kiira Korpi, Maria Artemieva and Mirai Nagasu, yes? Did I understand correctly?

Yes.
But if withdrawal will be at NHK (where are 3 Russians, 3 USA, 3 Japanese) Karen Chen, Riona Kato, Maria Artemieva and Mirai Nagasu will be not eligible (Karen Chen and Riona Kato because they would be 4th of same nation, Maria Artemieva and Mirai Nagasu because they are at this Event), so list will be of Kiira Korpi and 4 next Ladies not from Japan, Russia, USA - Elene GEDEVANISHVILI, Angelina KUCHVALSKA, Roberta RODEGHIERO and Nicole SCHOTT (if she will not be at JGP).

Isn't it always in Moscow too. How many of these girls spend Day after Day after Day after Day ....etc... Figure Skating in Moscow  All Russian figure skating drama aside, which is undeniably overwhelming at times, it's probably nice to get out of town and see the world.

Ah, thank you, and especially for clarifying even further. It's quite interesting.

If Christina Gao got anything, somebody else will be getting her spot because she just retired.

Edit: she didn't get any assignments.

Yes, this too.
It is more interesting to see Paris, or Tokyo, or Barcelona.

Top skaters from Moscow rarely compete in Moscow. Nationals - in Sochi, Internationals - abroad, Russian Cup Events - also not in Moscow.
Travel by plane is usual part of competition, to go to competition from home - unusual and strange.

Speaking of Barcelona ....with the buzz going on there wouldn't it be nice to add GP event there. The logistics involved with having 7 events and who skated where would overwhelm the ISU to the point that maybe they would forget to change the rules for a whole season. Can you imagine two straight years with the same scoring values? Plus a reason to go to Barcelona is always welcomed in my eyes ;)

There are 5 Challenger Series events before the start of the GP: US International FS Classic, Nebelhorn, Nepela, Finlandia and Mordovian. The winner of each of these, if she/he/they doesn't/don't already have two GPs, automatically goes to the top of the substitute list. There are two more Challenger events before NHK that could add names to the substitute list (Ice Challenge and Tallinn Trophy).

The remaining Challenger events are later in the fall season.

A host nation can choose any name from the top 5 on the substitute list, not necessarily the top name, though.

I don't think it's any stranger than the fact that SA hasn't named Karen Chen to their host spot. Both feel like no brainers. Maybe there's potential for another opening--for either S&K or Karen--before the deadline so the federations are keeping their options open?

There are quite a few other Ladies that are far more likely to get the third SA spot. I love Karen, and she did deserve the bronze at US Nats, but I don't think she'll get it. It might go to Mirai, but it all depends on how well everyone's doing. I doubt that Karen will get it, but won't mind if she does, she has a lot of potential and I like her.

IMO, it will depend how the ladies do at their prep international events. If Mirai can win or at least medal at a Challenger event, then she'd deserve the SA spot---after her 10th place at US Nationals, I think she'd have to do that. Karen Chen as the US bronze medalist is only 15 and top 5 at her first senior international would be a reasonable expectation for her.

I believe Karen Chen is candidate No 1 to TBD spot at SA. If she will not have spot by substitute - will be at Skate America.

I agree, AlexRus. USFS is holding off because chances are good that she could get a sub spot.

Just wondering if they really do stay at home, when they compete in Moscow. Maybe it could be easier for them to stay in some official hotel nearby the rink. I think Moscow is a big city, and some of them maybe live further from the competition rink, so it would take too much time.

Huh, that's weird, I thought home crowd is generally an advantage. Does Russian audience not care for ladies skating then?

I think AlexRus is referring to a reaction from skating poorly at home. Russian Ladies Skating is as alive in Russia as ever I would imagine.
