2015 Ondrej Nepela Trophy general discussion

I really liked the shibs program, I wonder what other mistakes they did it, they looked disappointed even before the scores.

The Shibs missed 4 of the 6 keypoints in the waltz. IIRC, that's worse than any of the other top teams so far this season.

Just caught the SD videos on youtube of the top 3 couples.
The Shibs' dance is nice, Maia is beautiful but as usual it comes down to those pesky levels with this team. Marina seriously needs to invest in a better technical coach because there is no excuse for year after year her teams struggling more than others to get levels on the pattern dances. Coomes/Buckland were OK, just happy to see them back on the ice after the trials and tribulations of last season. G/P, well all I could wonder during that was what was their coach smoking when that was choreographed? I get the impression that they go for bizarre just trying to hide Piper's lesser skating skills.

The dance results are exactly what I expected. The Shibs SD was ok. Some technical issues I guess. Maybe someone with more technical knowledge of ice dance can compare for me Shibs and CL. I would be interested to hear an analysis, since I think both teams have technical issues but CL of course scored much higher on their SD (maybe just cause it was in Italy?). So, I would be curious to hear the opinion of someone with better knowledge.

GP, well, what can I say, I didn't think that SD would do well, I disliked it actually, so... not shocked.

Have yet to see an SD from the top pairs that I really like. I would say the best ones I have seen so far have been BS and CB, for the SD.

I can't remember who posted the SD videos, but thank you! In the process of watching them now.

The Shibs do need a better technical specialist. They are still smooth skaters, but they aren't quite as sharp as they used to be, specifically in the pattern sequences I think. It seemed like they fell behind the music at one point as well. I do like this concept for them, it's very charming' they just need to become more comfortable with it and also skate closer together.

Gilles/Poirier SD feels disjointed. I get what they were going for, but I don't think it works. Of course, it's still early, but the music cuts just bothered me. I loved the waltz section, I liked what they were doing there. But the Beatles music did not work for me.

Yes, thank you!

Seems like it. Their SD is good, choreo-wise and it suits them. But if they want to try and medal that need to fix their technical side. At least that is fixable and they are capable of doing it. Will they? that's another story.

I disliked their SD. The Beatles at the beginning and end do not work at all. Not shocked at all this SD did not do well.

I'm curious did anyone see what Dylan and Lubov did that was illegal? Had they not gotten the -2.00 points they would have had a new PB. I thought maybe it would be obvious to me or I'd at least have some clue but I don't.

Here's the program for reference:

I think he did more than 3 1/2 turns in the final lift. That makes it an illegal movement and means they can't get higher than basic level for the lift.

A bit lazy to go back in this massive thread to look, but how come Evgenia's 3F+3T wasn't considered in the second half?

It comes at around the 1:50 mark, which is easily halfway in a 2 min 50 sec program. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejqKbKRVqsI

I find it somewhat humorous that at an event with multiple time delays that Evgenia received a time deduction and her jump combo wasn't counted in the 2nd half bous(when it seems like it should be).

Not sure I like the idea of Daleman skating last. Has she ever been in this position before?- not that I can remember! Except at Nationals but she was pretty assured of winning there. Be nice if she could move up for a medal here.

I think I'm beginning to warm up to G/P's SD but I could do without all the peace signs and freaky facial expressions.
S/S SD is good but why are they not hitting their levels?!?

S/K are going to have a tough time this season going up against D/R and S/H. I don't know how happy they'll be with 3rd place.
I really like A/K music choice for the long. They're the best choreographed Russian pair team for me.
I was kind of disappointed with T/M. They need to upgrade to a throw flip/lutz or a quad twist in order to compete with the top tier of pairs and they haven't done that yet. Also they continue their streak of horrible LP's, I really hope that program didn't cost too much because it is awful.

First: whether the competition is running on time, early or late is completely and utterly irrelevant to whether or not a skater gets a time deduction. If she went over or under, she gets the deduction. End of.

Second: the computer automatically marks the halfway point. At the top of the data entry screen is a little bar that says "half time"; when it hits halfway it lights up and automatically marks the jumps after that with the bonus. The technical panel have absolutely nothing to do with it.

So, help me ice dance experts. Just why did the Shibs score a 64? I really thought the performance was strong. What are fine errors in the Ravensburger waltz that placed them at a level 2?

First, in no way does this utterly, completely, ridiculously obvious fact affect the irony of the situation.
Second, no one mentioned a tech panel, but their data entry screen is obviously wrong because they were off by 20 seconds... if it's done automatically wrong then it should be overridden. I wonder if they punched her jump in during the step sequence.

Loved this Coppella program for the Shibs. There is a bit of humor, which gives a chance for their personality to shine through. Have to work on levels, but this a good start.

I couldn't agree more! This enables them to be both lyrical/classical/flowing/beautiful and playful/fun/adorable. Perfect for them.

Mrs, P, did you have Baby P yet??

Hey guys, can I just confirm with people what time (local time, in Bratislava!) the men's FS is to start? I had originally written it down and converted it as 03:15 AEST, but using the schedule at the start of the thread I just converted it and got 01:45! Naturally, I don't want to oversleep and miss it - can anyone help?

According to the schedule mens starts at 16:45 (4:45) local time:
