Chan deserve to win no doubt, although with a bit too much GOEs but I think the placement is corrected. I think it is good that clean skate with less difficulty but has polish and refine movement ( I still don't like Chan expression) outscored difficult but shaky program. It will force others to polish their skate more. This is good for Yuzuru as it will bring out his fire.

Typical Chan season, besides few exceptions, bombastic start and then judges try to keep up by giving out the same tens even when starts wiping the ice for the whole 4 minutes at the year-end events.

As impressed as I was with this skate and think it's deserving, I really hope that isn't how the season continues :hopelessness:.

But the field is deeper than it was when Chan (incorrectly, IMO) won the WC in 2013. Yuzu, Javi, Denis, plus other dark horses who have medal shots. So I think Patrick is going to have to earn his marks this year.

This doesn't happen often, but I must admit, the gentlemen outdid the ladies tonight.

I liked Patrick's program much more this time around compared to the past. His triple axel still scares me (air position, looks weirdly "loose" compared to his other jumps) but it was nonetheless nice to see him land one.

Yuzuru was... Technically very impressive. The program definitely has potential and is much better than Phantom. However, weird as it sounds, the technical difficulty may be a little... overboard? Though he hit the big stuff, it took so much out of him that I didn't see the ease, flow, or performance ability he usually exhibits. Hopefully it'll all come together as he grows more comfortable with the program and its technical challenges. (Though at present, I almost wish he'd take out the third quad if that allows him to skate with more freedom).

All that being said, I'm still surprised Patrick won the free. He deserved to win overall considering the SPs, but despite my feelings about their respective performances, Patrick's technical difficulty was quite watered down and front-loaded compared to Yuzuru.

Congrats to Dice for making the podium! Get those -3Lo/-3T combos going though! That's what'll make a difference between bronze and silver.

Nam, Sasha Petrov, and Timothy Dolensky were other highlights. Jin Seo Kim's performance was very fun, despite the jump errors. Adam's costume made me go :shocked: :scratch: and the music cuts were chaotic, but there were some nice moments within.

Overall, an entertaining competition. Entertaining in a good way.

Difficulty has nothing to do with the GOE. It's about how good the jump is performed and what comes before and after. Chan's miles better on the before and after parts, specifically. Jumping during a fitting moment in music also gives GOE.

I know how the system works, thank you very much Still doesn't mean I have to agree with it, and I don't really agree with your 'miles better' either.

Great! Care to share the details? I'm truly curious. (FWIW, I thought his SP was well done, but the FS, to me, was just jump jump jump until he got to the footwork, *and* his body form was poor - no stretch, line and poor posture. Back to the "old" Hanyu.)

She was speaking about BV. I think what she meant is that the quality of Chan's Tech.elements it's not so high as to close such a big gap thanks to the GoE's.
