Hm...a little puzzled at everyone who doesn't like Hanyu's FS. I think it is super original, a bit avant-garde and very well suited to Hanyu. The arm movements were faithful to the source material, and the Ina Bauer was choreographed perfectly to the music. Perhaps people don't get it bc it's traditional Japanese (like truly Japanese, not Americanized Japanese ala Memoirs of a Geisha)?

I loved it, one of the best men's FS programs I've seen in quite awhile. But I'm not interested in arguing about it with anyone here, don't care if they disagree, they aren't going to change my opinion and I won't change theirs.

Possibly. I still like his Air on the G String in the link. His skating and interpretation to that Bach was so polished and not juniorish at all.
Maybe team Orser is exploring a vast range of musical options (in his case Bach only), not necessarily to win a medal right now, but to help him grow in a long run. Lol, Orser definitely sounds like my piano teacher when I was little by having me play bunch of Bach Inventions. It was rather a torture in my case..

I'm glad to hear he gets better, but I think he still has a long way ahead to meet even his own standard. Who knows? He is THE fast learner. He may conquer this loud piece by Bach and wins a medal at the end of the season.

at 17, and considering his progress every year, i do agree and think that they are working on the future... no need to win now, but aiming for OG

No idea, he didn´t look sick to me... but I also thought it was really weird...

Very happy to have J10 in the line up. Usually the top 4 skate at the Gala so Nam just misses out whereas Jeremy is a special guest. This is another case of COP math such that Nam placed 4th for both SP and LP but is 5th overall.

yes but they have 6th place and 5th place finishers in the gala....

Gabby Daleman is skating and she placed 5th. Heck, Kaetlyn is skating and she placed 11th...and is also probably injured and maybe shouldn't be skating :hopelessness:.

Hopefully Nam just didn't want to and/or couldn't do the gala, rather than not being invited.

It's definitely odd, but I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation. I can't imagine him not being invited given it's a Canadian event.

Took another look at Patrick's program. The crazy GOE was not undeserved.

Frankly, I'm glad the judges are rewarding quality technical components. "Managing to stand a jump up" is not the same as "great jump!" unless you are Scott Hamilton commentating an event.

Also, there is no way that Nam should NOT have beaten Adam Rippon.

The kid had 2 quads and a 3A, none of which Adam delivered on his feet. Yeah, there is room to mature, and yeah that music was WAY too big for him, but it should be a scandal that he only beat Rippon on TES by 6 points.

If Nam is trying to look more mature maybe he should learn from Rippon- dye your hair grey lol seriously Nam is trying but he still skates young and lacks power but he isn't bad at all and deserved fourth. I still don't understand all the whining about Chan he deserved the gold it was earned. tonight he owned that music and program and Hanyu was a bit flat - but technically chan can't compete with Hanyu. That should be a h uge concern for chan.

They will never like Yuzuru. He skates to Chopin they said he is imitating Patrick. He skate to Japanese music they say there is no choreography in it despite the fact that he has the most difficult entries and transitions before all of his jumps.

I really like Hanyu's LP even though I never appreciated those others were crazy about before. His PCs have improved so much and this is an interesting choreography.

This was an awesome LP.. Chan getting a clear victory, nice fight by Hanyu, good skates by the others.

You're a rare gem among all those are trashing Yuzuru's free skate. I get it that people have different taste, but don't they see Yuzuru having tons of transitions before his jumps? Why don't they look at the entries before his 3As!! How could they say that Yuzuru's free skate has no choreography? His style is not their taste, ok, but choreography is there and it's very difficult.

see, i prefer Hanyu's LP to his SP... but that's just because I really don't like the music cuts in his Chopin leaving out the main theme of that gorgeous Ballade. i think his LP has huge potential but fell flat a bit tonight, probably because he did do 3 quads and 2 3 A and then, ran out of power...

I never knew, why Chan lets me so cold. Yesterday watching dancing competition I realized, his hands don't dance. Yes he waves his arms, but they are always straight and his fingers spread and don't move at all. Also his posture isn't the one of great dancer...skating skills great, dancing not...

Just to be clear, although I agree with Patrick's win, I think Yuzu's program is marvelous also. The theme and choreography is very innovative and creative. Plus difficult to execute. Usually we see Asian women doing the "Asian women" programs like Miss Saigon, Madame Butterfly, etc...and it's really great to see a Japanese man doing a heavily Japanese-culture influenced program. Very refreshing, especially since he did POTO last year.
