Part of the reason is that there's no equivalent of Golden Skate in RG so I don't know where to turn to to educate myself about body elements and difficulty value. Most of the knowledgeable RG fans I know are former competitive gymnasts or coaches so that doesn't help

I also follow AG, albeit halfheartedly since I no longer find it interesting. Whenever I'm in AG mode, I find myself rewatching Khorkina and Anna Pavlova' routines.

I agree with you on the not a huge fan of modern stuff, although I find myself watching stuff from the 10 era.... (strangely enough, I am the exactly reverse on figure skating.)
