I want figure skating to be more sport + art and less sport + beauty pageant!

Not that there's anything wrong with being pretty, so no disrespect to her... just commenting on how others perceive the sport...!

Kiira must have been too nervous. Not many competitions done. Sad. Must have been her worst skate ever. We won't see her lovely free skate again, I'm afraid.

Maybe it's just me.

I agree. I don't think difficult variations count for extra points on anything if you screw up a basic part of the element. Like difficult spins that travel two feet.

Kiira has VERY good skating skills. I was just thinking how much I miss that nice glide from some of the top skaters. Of course, you still got to land the jumps, but it's not like she doesn't have anything to offer.

ugh so sad for Kiira. That was like Lulu in '97. All the potential, strong program, great skating skills, and jumps completely shot.

Korpi had some excellent, sophisticated programs from a couple years back (she's been out for a long time with injury and illness) but she's never been consistent on the jumps, and obviously it all didn't happen today. People don't just like her solely because of her looks, lol. She's always had very excellent PCS and decent jumps if on (which was rare even in her prime).

I agree, when she started off the skating was smooth and wonderful to watch, just a huge shame about the jumps

I understand your frustration in general;I've heard many a times that someone is 'too ugly', 'too fat' etc. to be a FS champion
