2016-2017 Programs by Discipline

I think she may have been joking. But a while back, I think on this thread, someone suggested a GOT Mother of Dragons piece that was fantastic.

I think that specific piece of music is too monotonous.

Not that I would have watched them anyway, but now I know I can't ....

That (IMHO) Godawful tune makes me want to shoot myself long before Freddie ever gets executed......:dbana:
:disagree: In our parts of the world no one gets executed just because of one person's dislike of one of their songs. No one gets executed even if one million people dislike most or all of their songs. And they should not be, as it is very likely that another million (or even two million) people like most or all of their songs.

Nope, they are using some piece from the musical itself. Here's the link to the official site: http://musicalonegin.com/#main There's a lot of vids on youtube, unfortunetely I haven't watched it myself, but I've heard a lot of positive feedback.
I saw the musical & nothing stood out for me musically but maybe I should give it a relisten
Tho Im too happy they again went with something original
& FP sems like exciting programm as well. The Doll I can rewatch over & over again

I love Bohemian Rhapsody myself, so while I strongly disagree that's it's godawful, I'm pretty sure el henry was referring to Freddie (the lead singer) dying per the song's lyrics. ("I don't want to die, sometimes wish I'd never been born at all").

You may be right, I did not think about it. But the poster may still have meant something else.

I apologize, I was far too obscure. @Hyena is correct, I was referring to the song's lyrics. I am old enough to have heard it (and all of Queen's music) when it first came out, and although I tried to avoid it, I was not always successful. And I was told that the lyric's references to "dying" and shout-outs to his mama meant the singer was singing about being on death row. Like I feel when I hear it (joke, joke, joke)

Heresy. smh :slink:

I know, I am in a very tiny minority that does not appreciate Freddie and Queen. I love me my American men, but I turned down the music for Adam's FS and Ross's SP; just couldn't take it, didn't want to live forever, didn't want to hear the song.

Oh well, we can't all like the same thing, can we?

I don't know if you meant this seriously or not, but this is SO true for me now, you have no idea! Except the 'terrible horrible' part of course :)

I suppose your blasphemous utterances might be forgiven. ;)

Misato Komatsubara/Tim Koleto will skate their FD to Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen

Well, as much as I like Bohemian Rhpsody, I'm really not looking forward to this. If not for the fact that the lyrics are slightly problematic for a performance by a pair... It is after all a first person male perspective and the only female character is "mama"...

Lyrical content is apparently very easy to ignore, but sometimes it has resulted IHMO slightly strange programs in the past in exhibitions, eg Davis & White skating to Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" as if it was a romantic song, Daisuke Takahaski doing Björk's "Bachelorette" which is pretty explicitly a female first person lyric, but now also in competition programs. Just to mention two that have irritated me most in the past couple of years - "Mack the Knife" is after all a murder ballad and has very little (if any) debonair and lighthearted content despite swing arrangement, Nina Simone's "Sinnerman" may feel youthfully energetic, but the lyrics are pretty dark...
