Fragment of Elena and Ruslan's FD.

FD music: OST Slumdog Millionaire, "Ang Laga De" OST Ram-Leela

Ooookay. I'll just say that I expect the bashing Volosozhar/Trankov received for their Bollywood program last season to continue this season.

But the piece is too short, maybe the whole thing with costumes will look more Bollywood'ish.

The Ang Laga De part is going to be a challenge. It's beautiful music, but I guess when I & many others think Bollywood, it's something faster, more rhythmic, like D/W's OD. This piece is quite soft. & I want to know what else they are using from Slumdog Millionaire, because again there's lots of parts of the soundtrack that aren't just "standard" Bollywood (Slumdog is of course a Western view of India anyway...). So a challenge, and they'll have to work really hard to get it right.

I'll just say there are hundreds of better songs to use, actual Bollywood songs, sang by Bollywood singers that are way better than the overused soundtrack of Slumdog Millionaire. But well, here's hoping they manage to make this work.

I thought Maria's SP music is called "Butterflies are free", used by Anna OVCHAROVA seasons ago.

"Butterflies are Free" isn't the name of the actual music, that's just what Ovcharova called it. The actual music is from "The Story of an Unknown Actor" I know she used Agitato I, which is the beginning and end of Maria's program. Waltz of Farewell is also at the end of Maria's SP.
Here's the links if you want to listen:
Agitato I https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0iFW4sSgkE
Waltz of Farewell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cCO7J6cGyM

Concerto Grosso No. 1, V: Rondo is another piece that's not apart of "The Story of an Unknown Actor" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNKWoo9Fe40 which is the middle section (footwork).

Actually part of the ending of Concerto Grosso No. 1, V: Rondo is apart of an animation scored by Schnittke called "The Butterfly". So it could be where they got the idea.

ETA: And yes, I would LOVE for them to use some of the music from "Butterfly" in her LP, its very nice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uq4jkHKvAx8

So more Schnittke to come from Maria :agree:

haha, so much story to it. It will take me a while to digest. The animation looks so avant garde.
I like the butterfly interpretation, and judging from Maria's added skirt in her skate, she may well be following the butterfly theme too.

She is  In the SP she starts off as a cocoon that she's trying to escape from and evolves into a butterfly for the long.

“To briefly sum up the idea, in the short program I’m like in a cocoon, trying to get out, but it is hard,” the skater explained. “The free program is light and airy. The nymph has turned into a butterfly.”

The funny thing is it looks like they did spend time getting it to look half naked just right. it looks bunched up and shrugged off on one side on purpose... i suspect that much time and effort was spent getting her to look undressed in the way they want. Also the sparkly bra under is just wonderful.

I don't mind the costume... but not sure it fits the music... there likely are some programs this would work well with... this just seemed random.

I think it may have been helped if she should was wearing more like guy boxer briefs. If they are going for the wearing the boyfriends clothes look, include the underwear.

I agree with this. I like her look, always loved the boyfriend look for girls. I do find that sexy but boxer briefs would be better. On the other hand though his look sucks. Put some jeans and a t-shirt. It's way better than that ridiculous jacket.:noshake:

All together now, a rousing chorus of...

Ain't nothin' like the real thing baby
Ain't nothin' like the real thing.

You are a bit late for this discussion ;). Bobrova was wearing a short black dress for the Russian Test skate yesterday, which most likely means that the shirt was just for the show.

SD Blues: Air Mail Special by Ella Fitzgerald (Club des Belugas remix), Swing: Air Mail Special by Ella Fitzgerald (Club des Belugas remix); choreo by Alena Samarskaia
FD Tarantella Napolitana: "Che ne parliamo a fa'", "O Sole mio" (in Italian) and " Luna Mezz 'O Mare"; choreo by Alena Samarskaia.

They call the FD Tarantella Napolitana, but it is a medley of 3 Italian songs. Plus it is a hand-clapping crowd pleaser! The JGP Yokohama audience appeared to love it, and I will definitely enjoy seeing it again :cheer:

I also loved their FD. With each change of music a bigger smile appeared on my face :) I would only change the "O sole mio" part by one sung by Pavarotti (I simply can't bear anybody else singing it :) ). And I also liked Anstasia's dress.

Evgenia Medvedeva's LP Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close OST--Alexandre Desplat
