so... for those thinking the PCS were through the roof... actually, Tessa and Scott got good PCS yes, but it's really their elements that got them such a high score... Level 4 throughout... Who was the tech panel?

Well, two of them are Canadian is my point. Lenient panel, I'm guessing.

And my point is that the Referee does not have any role in calling the elements.

The Technical Specialist, assisted by the Assistant Technical Specialist, identifies and calls the performed elements and the specific Levels of Difficulty of certain performed elements (e.g. spins, footwork,). He/She identifies illegal or additional elements and falls. The Technical Controller authorizes and/or corrects all calls, supervises the Data Operator and can propose corrections, if necessary.
In case of disagreement, the majority among the three Officials prevails.

But it's a small event in Canada where a top Canadian team skates. And they have no competition, because all the other pairs here are much weaker than them. That's the reality of the situation, V/M won't get harsh scrutiny here IMO. That's the case in other countries as well. B/S just scored very high in a Russian event somewhere last week. IMO you can't say much about these scores and if they are realistic or not, since the top team here basically skates in a solo event without rivals.

What a dynamite technical panel. The president of Skate Canada and Galit Chait! Lots of power in da house.

Tessa and Scott were just wow! Like totally awesome. I think it was smart of them to debut in Canada so marks would flow in their favour. All the teams put out good efforts. I've been a fan of Beaudry/Sorensen's SD since they debuted in Championnats Québécois d'été in the summer. Hope to see some good FDs too.

What you are saying has nothing to do with my response to olayolay's "point" that it supposedly matters that the Ref is Canadian (in addition to the TC being Canadian).

ETA:
The Bobrova/Soloviev event was a domestic comp in Russia ... so it looks to me as if all three members of the tech panel were Russian.
If so, I wouldn't lump it into the same category as one of the ISU Challenger comps. Only the TC at Autumn Classic is Canadian.

Alas I had to watch the Divoon MsIz without sound (why are music companies SO FREAKING STUPID? People might actually like a piece they hear in a program and GO BUY IT. No wonder the music industry is a mess.). One fascinating thing about her Divaness: watch the S&P section (aka Stand and Pose, aka We Need A Moment To Catch Our Breath). Girlfriend does funk like a true diva. You FLIP that hair. Endlessly entertaining. Endlessly. :) And it's not a bad program, though more than a tad slowwwwwwwwwwww.

Hawayek and Baker, you have BOUNCED BACK WITH A VENGEANCE. H/D best keep an eye on them. They're coming for you, and if their FD is as good, you had better be worried.

Voir, it's a pleasure to have you back. Scott needs a new haircut--the side-part is doing him no favors. Tessa's got the rhythm down. Choreography is nothing special, but they are. :)

F-B/S's program is a yawnfest, but they skated it well. He got the rhythm, she needs to loosen up in the hips.

L/L-G, aka Our Mystery Married Couple, aren't going to make a big splash but the final lift was noteworthy.

Kaitlin HAWAYEK / Jean-Luc BAKER

Jean-Luc's looking good this year. Not sure about the straight dark hair on Kaitlin. Oh, come on! Buble gets to sing his part straight and NINA SIMONE is remixed?! No. Just no. I don't care how cool that mini reverse lift was. :gaah:

:agree: Well observed post (understatement) ;).

Tessa and Jean-Luc are stars for me! The Danes were highly entertaining. Kudos for music between the skates (The Doors ), but Tessa's dress need to go.

Everyone is saying the score for Tessa and Scott was really high of 77.72. I noticed that the Tech base value for all level fours has increased from 29.70 to 33.30 since last year. Won't all Short Dance scores be increased this year?

I tell about it in every single short dance thread this season, but it looks like most people just ignore that fact. Not only BV has changed, but also the GOE bonus (in points) for second step sequence is higher per grade that it was for the second pattern sequence in previous seasons.
To compare the scores is simply not correct.

Edit: and that's why top Juniors scores for SD remained in mid 60s, and top Seniors went far over 70s.
