2016 World Championships Ladies Free Skate

The scores!!!! :dbana:

And how on Earth Wagner got silver? Anna was robbed, IMO. Again. And inflated score or not, Medvedeva clearly and fairly won this competition.

The scores for all the top performers in pretty much every event were inflated. Two WRs at this Worlds. That should tell you something. But the placements for the most part were pretty spot on. YMMV of course.

I have to watch Mao's FS to see what the polarizing arguments were about. I think she was tentative in the first half of the program, as seen by her slowing down to set up for her jumps. Once her reservations about the jumps have been partially cleared, she rose like Butterfly herself: restrained, subtle yet clear. Much like Ashley's unmatched ability to play a mad diva, the way Mao elegantly turned her head just to express the suppressed rage and vulnerability is top notch in my book. Suffice to say that the FS did not reach the same level of her Rach masterpiece, but it still made my heart melt. I think the choreography itself left a lot of points on the table while everyone else is doing homework on the COP to squeeze out every point.

Interestingly, Mao looked very calm and gracious when the score was announced. After listening to her sister's podcast and hints of Mao's thoughts on TV, I think her teams are realistic about her chance and I believed that she came back because she loved skating and probably wanted to prove something other than a tangible reward.

Agreed. The crowd was fine. Anna executed her jumps, but that performance was just as cold as Gracie's Frozen Chicken LP. Why would the crowd give a standing-o to a cold performance? Nobody, not even the Russians, should receive obligatory standing o's just because they skate clean and their nationality. :palmf:

Sorry, but whats wrong with Anna's "lack" of emotions? Not every person in the world is emotional - someone is calm.. So what's wrong with Annna's "Snow-Queen"-ish performance? Why is that worse than overdrama and other overemotional performances?

I have to complain one more time about Tara and Johnny as I am rewatching. Who on Earth hired these two? They talk way to much and they go straight to the weaknesses of the skater "here is this skater, she is not good at this and this and that. that was a good element but we would have to rewatch it. now she is doing this and that (very detailed description of everything, naming all the bloody jumps. i feel like blahblahblah... she is like blablah". OMG, I want to shoot myself! I think casual viewers' heads exploded, they are so unprofessional most of the time like two shallow girls sitting on a couch gossiping (to use a washed out comparison like they do all the time).

Just taking a look at the comments and want to say this about Gracie.

She has made great strides in managing competition pressure. Earlier in the season she closed down when things went wrong. Yesterday she wasn't happy but did all in her program except 3L. In fact, she only lost 3 pts on combo. She was ahead by 2, so net of -1. Nothing, really. She needs a page from Adam Rippon - when things go wong forget them and perform everything else beautifully. She could have been on the podium.

When we don't achieve what we set out to do one interpretaton would be that we are doing the wrong thing and quit. But, another way to look at it is we are meant for something far greater. Our failures are the force that drives us to the excellence that is our birthright. This was true of Ashley and seems relevant to Gracie as well.

She pulls off that sophisticated Firebird program because she is an artist in the making. She will come to see last night as an important step to a 2018 Olympic metal.

She is 8th and skated 2 clean programs. I don't need a mirror ball to see its not going to happen for her.
Same goes for Radionova. Two clean programs and she's in 6th. If both girls don't work on their postures it's just not going to happen for them, not in this tight field. And Radionova looked puzzled and kind of ill in the K&C, she's just not used to that and she definitely didn't expect it.

I could not agree more. They both need to be muffled. They are just AWFUL. If I were in the audience and sat right next to them, I'd tell them to their face how bad they suck.

Her posture and carrige are definately a problem. Also, against all these great skaters you she the flaws in her jumps. She jackknifes them all. In the short she bent so far on the 2A she could have kissed her knees! Nothing against her but glad to see the judges being more discriminating.

Compare the speed and ice coverage of these three skaters:

Mao Asada (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUigFS76uVc)
Ashley Wagner (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlu_6dxUr-I)
Evgenia Medvedeva FS (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKnJx7h7G4E)

Note Mao's far, far superior ice coverage which includes entry speed into jumps and her flowout out of jumps is superior.

Mao's not slow. She only looks slow because she moves so effortlessly across the ice. If you know anything about figure skating, you would be ashamed to say that Mao is slow, because that means you're ignorant about figure skating.

I agree, bad posture, wild skating plus arm flailing is kind of sweet in a little girl, but a lady skater should be more refined imho. But she got all the wrong messages from those judges (and probably the Russian Fed also) at the beginning of the season. That's why I feel kind of sad for her.

Lol, when I first read your comment I thought it was about Elena and Rika (because of the comments above yours) and I was thinking why would you tell them they suck? I know they have a big problem with their posture, but why would you be so mean? :))))

Oh my F gosh I know right they are so annoying! I am glad I didn't watch NBC just now. I rewatched Mao's FS and after she landed her 3A (yes it was 2 footed I even saw it in real time live) Tara immediately said "Judges need to review it", my mood totally went down. Same for 3F+3Lo, "need to be reviewed". And when she said Evgenia is "by far the best technical jumper in the world"/"She is born to do 3+3" I was like, you can't be serious. Her 3+3 and 3-jump combo have no flow, and every time she does a toe jump she smashed her toepick into the ice, and she didn't even have a +Lo combo. And adding tano does not make you a good jumper either. Can NBC hire Dick and Peggy back?

Excellent competition, very spectacular.

About Satoko, can someone explain to me why is this so weird?
She has tiny jumps, many people say she ur or prerotated, anyway, judges give her high TES, then you check her PCS and are soooo low. Why?????
Judges are really so vulgar that they truly think the Titanic program is really better than Satoko´s? Evgenia has better SS than Satoko :roll9:? Gracie better performance/execution than Satoko :noshake:?
If they want underscore her, why don´t to call her ur or prerotations? I mean, I don´t understand their logic. Judges don´t love her and her PCS show it. It is possible it is not written the prerotation thing at books? The rules are clear about prerotations? because Mao get her ur calls very often, it does not matter her big name or if she is japanese.

And I love Satoko, she is lovely, but everyone in this forum say very sure that she does not deserves her TES and is so difficult understand for me why judges don´t do something if this is really true. Mao means big money, she is MAO ASADA, and they don´t care and don´t overlook her ur, in fact they are in extreme strict with her.

Here's the thing about Satoko: she's possibly the most forgettable of the top ladies. Especially on Choreo. While she does display some fire in the SP, her FS is boring boring boring. I saw her program many times already, even live once, and still, if somebody asked me about it, I wouldn't be able to describe it because it's so cookie cutter. Pleasant, but that's about it, there's nothing that would stay in my head.

At least Gracie, who's the most unmusical of the girls and really emotionless in her skating at least has interesting choreo.
