I think they throw them into the audience so they wouldn't be on the ice. I thought Wang's tie flew off on its own. If a skater throws a piece away, they must have felt the imminent departure of the piece, or it's annoying the skater. I remember Kurt threw his wrist band away in frustration at the Olympics.

Quite obviously, but what I am trying to say is that the rule makes an incentive to have costumes that will stay on even when you are skating vigorously for 4.5 minutes. Sure that desire that it stay on is primarily for safety reasons but if you are throwing it off for whatever reason, it isn't staying on. And what if you miss and it lands on the ice anyway or if a stupid and clueless audience member throws it back? Basically, the bottom line is costumes are supposed to stay on. If they come off a skater is (and IMO should be) penalized, however they come to be off.

And Wang definitely threw his tie unfortunately, it was a lot cooler when I thought it magically flew into the audience on its own.

Alaine has some of my favorite spin positions. The toe touch spin, the sideways sit, the outside edge haircutter- I hope other skaters start picking them up.

I wish Chartrand would stop jumping with her arms and shoulders. I keep expecting her to shout Ta Dahhhhhhhhhhh! each time she jumps.

It would also help if they chose MUSIC WITH A SLOWER TEMPO for her. She's got a frantic quality, especially when she gets nervous, and I think a slower tempo would help temper that. Otherwise, she gets SO revved up she misses jump after jump.

Two great spin positions though. In fact, the spins were the best part for me.

There's no problem with that. When she's on and has clean performances, she's incredible. And the program is not terrible either...Watch this year's Canadian Nationals and COR SP for her clean performances.
