2016 World Championships Ladies SP

Anyone seen Pogo's PCS up close?

Two judges (No. 1 and 5) gave all components 9 and above.

Two judges (No. 2 and 9) gave all components less 7.75 and below.

Yep... I also noticed that questionable thing.. Clearly 2 judges really likes her, but 2 other judges really don't want her to win for some reason. :scratch2:

Mirai lost like 5 points for that underroated 3t.
She would have been in the top mix. Such a shame because it's harder for her compare to the other girls in terms of rotating the jumps. :,(

But that UR was so obvious.

Am I the only one who thinks Zijun should have scored higher than Satoko? Feel free to crucify me with your internet pies and vegetables :)

What an amazing last group. I'm happy for all of them!

Anna, at LAST a beautiful clean program and the judges are forced to put her in contention.
Gracie, WOW! Sass, and performance and even musicality! woohooo.
Evgenia, so charming and calm through pressure.
Radionova, fighting to keep all the jumps and performing her heart out.
Satoko, Lovely and controled fire.
Rika, adorable quirky and steady.
Ashley was a revelation.
Thank you Ladies. Kill it in the Free.

Zijun was lovely today. She had lovely flow, grace, and landed all her jumps with ease. Yes, definitely, I would have put her ahead of Satoko. That Satoko girl....man, her jumps are so tiny. I think that's what is holding her scores back. She is 18 years old? I don't think she will grow any taller.

I must say that Satoko getting all +3 for her ridiculously centered and exceptionally saucy layback spin was well deserved. Best spin all year.

I think today is still a victory for Mirai. It has been a bittersweet journey with lots of ups and downs (more downs) to get to 2016 Words and she put on a great short despite the UR.

For those of you complaining about inflation of the American ladies:

Evgenia at Skate America (first clean SP of season) received a 70.92 for a perfect SP. At the GPF, she received a 74.58, about 3 points of which were increased PCS.

Yes, Ashley and Gracie's SBs have improved by about 3 points, and that inflation would've occurred more steadily if they had more frequent clean SPs. Alas, they receive their "inflation" all at once because those clean SPs are so rare.

Anyway, this scoring is the best I've seen all season. Satoko getting a UR call finally, Anna being rewarded for a clean SP even though she's the #3 Russian lady.

What a night of great skating. No matter who you're rooting for, you've got to admit tonight was great. Best of luck to the US ladies on Saturday (don't give us clean SPs FINALLY and then fail to deliver the LP!) I'm going to need a lot of alcohol. Best of luck to everyone else's faves too!

With you 100% - Love Satoko but those jumps need to be called!

yes, i love the SP. she puts everything into it and the standing ovation view from afar at the end was priceless.

Gosh, I just saw Anna Pogorilaya's sp in its entirety, I would have put her ahead of all the ladies! Even Gracie. She skated like Yuna Kim out there, speed, flow, edges, big jumps, expression, just everything, the best she's ever skated, in my opinion. What did she place??

Also, as a special post.

Whatever, not her technical best maybe, but still compared to everybody else in top groups... Like dunno, she was the one deserving the 35 pcs there

Absolutely agree! Her and Ashley should have had highest PCS. It is just different level of the understanding. I was very surprised how low (in comparison to the last group) her PCS were.

For those of you who are complaining that the American audiences were not friendly to the Russian ladies ... Anna Pogorilaya disagrees with you. In the press conference directly after the Short Program, Anna said that the crowd was very supportive, and (now I'm paraphrasing) she appreciated it. I only understand 3 Russian words -- da, nyet and spassebo -- but I could understand her meaning even before the translator supplied it. She showed herself to be quite moved.

In contrast, it is burned into my memory that in Sochi 2014, during the Ladies' skates at least, the crowd was chanting "Rus-si-a" over and over even while the American ladies were skating out to take their position at center ice to skate their programs. Not exactly what you would call even a mildly polite reception.

I was charmed by Anna and Evgenia during the press conference. And I was wowed by Anna's skate. First time I really "got" her. :luv17:

As upside down as this sport is at times and admitting to not being able to ignore the whole "final group" factor that plagues the scores........I'm so happy that Anna got at least 2nd place respect for putting on what I felt was a first place performance skating in the last position. That sounds like a very difficult spot to skate in. Just my opinion mind you. :)

She is second. Should have been first though. People think about Pogo as a "third number" of Russian ladies, but in actuality she is third either when she bombs or when her scores are purposely are lower than of her compatriots because of her instability. In Russian Nats, for ex, she should have been second overall, ahead of Radionova, not third.
Also people forget that she was 4th in 2014 Worlds, when objectively she should have been on the podium (she was the only one with a clean LP there, and SP). And she won more GP events than for ex. Gracie. It is just when she falls it looks really scary...

Anna was on fire. You can see her determination when her coach told her you can do it and she got out there on center ice. I'm rooting for her to make the podium now :)

Well...Anna crushed Mirai and who got the Standing ovation. Can you imagine if worlds was held in Russia and people showed up in the front row wearing Russian flags as cloths and not cheering on perfectly done elements by Americans. I'm American BTW :)

Not a bad crowd IMO but it's not like they are the Japanese in 2014. TBH....I keep thinking everyone in the front row is ChuckM
