2016 Worlds, General Info & Entries

I'd have to rush to make the OC. Is it worthwhile?

The thing of it is, one never knows....some appeal to me and some dont....If you dont make many worlds, I would suggest you try and make it. But if you dont want to see four and a half hours of men, remember, they are going to make you stay. Or leave for ever. The lack of security personel and machines makes for an unfortunate situation where there are no ins and outs, which is very sad to me as at Worlds, London, Ontario, ins and outs were easy. I watched the first half of the men's final in front of a big screen at the wonderful Covent Gardens across the street, eating all sorts of delicious food at a table, away from the crowds....so instead of leaving after the OC and getting a nice sit down dinner with friends, we are forced to stay and watch the lower groups. Unlike karne, I do not think this is a sign of disrespect to the lower skaters, its a sign of wanting to have a good time, spend money locally, and taking breaks....and having fun.

I was thinking that they let us come in-and-out during ice resurfaces at Nationals..but now I'm wondering if maybe I'm starting to misremember things.

It's sort of insane, considering at Boston Nationals...you could go in-and-out, at least during the ice resurfaces.

The really sad thing is, yes, I have some bad memories from Boston 2014 in the way things were run and handled, but the in and out privlidges at events are worth alot to me. I would pay extra for in and out privlidges all week for sure . I have no idea what they are thinking. This isnt a two hour basketball game...it is a marathon a week long. If you are not feeling well and need a break, too bad...you are out of there.....so sorry....the next time something is in Boston, I think I will take my $4,000 and see if a cruise ship or tour wants to treat me like a human being instead of a cow.... :noshake:

I don't either.... I completely agree. After all, it is my experience...

Although I can respect the POV that the lower-ranked skaters want an audience as well. Anyway, I'm sure they'll have one :yes:

If it's any consolation(?), I do plan on seeing the Ladies FS in its entirety, so...

Me too! I think I sat through 50 ladies at Worlds LA. Man that was a nice facility...attached practice arena and a coffee shop and real food! Lots of good memories there...met Frank C. for the first time, and many skating budds I see now at many events...did I mention it was warm?

All event ticket holders received a wrist band and when you wanted out and back in they would make you go through security but didn't look at your ticket. I went down to North Station several times to purchase food or coffee and just sit and relax and people watch. Not sure what the policy was if a person only had a ticket to one event.

I personally don't have a deep desire to see the opening ceremony.

I just hope the traffic won't be horrible from th airport to the hotel. My mom lived in Boston when she did her undergraduate degree at Tufts and she told me that traffic is so horrible on Fridays.

Oh and I realized a while ago that it means the Celtics and Bruins will have to have a road trip because of Worlds. Lol. Sorry it's just I find it somewhat satisfying when....I really don't know how to explain it....I mean I like hockey and basketball (But hockey a lot more), but....I really can't word what I want to say...

Well, I must respectfully disagree. Look at the wording in your own post, as if being forced to watch the "lower groups" is something that is to be dreaded. Plenty of posts about skipping the "earlier groups" are just like that, as if they are not worth watching, as if all they are good for is skipping. Brendan deserves just as much of a crowd as Hanyu, but he is in one of those dreaded "earlier groups" that people will be skipping as they "have fun".

I understand what you're saying, I feel it too. It does give a certain satisfaction when figure skating is being given precedence over a "bigger" sport.

Depending on the frame of reference of the watcher, the lower groups may have to get bypassed in the context of time constraints, arena grounding, the need for breaks for us old people, and the need for real food.....that says nothing about the worth of an athlete, and everything about the likes and NEEDS of the watcher. Just because I dont enjoy watching basketball says nothing about the worth of the players. I dont go out of my way to watch novice men at nats. I cant "do it all" anymore. I wouldnt actually mind watching all the skaters at worlds do all their performances...same thing at nats.....but time and needs change priorities.

Age perspective is interesting.....I am old and time flys...I have less than six days to wheels up and I am trying to slow down the clock!!!!!! If I could just stop the clock for a week, I would be in good shape....but planes wait for no person....

Hmm, how to put this with political correctness ... I would have to say that typically the OC are not a must-see. It's nothing at all like, say, an Olys OC. There will be the national anthem, local skate groups and probably a featured guest, but the athletes aren't involved. Of course, I have no idea what is planned for Boston.

I do plan to watch but I would not be bereft if I had a better offer and missed it.

Only 24 make it to the FS so 14 will get cut. 1/3 of the field basically.

Apologies if these questions were already answered...Is it 24 for all finals, including dance? If so, will there likely be 4 groups of 6 skaters/couples each? And is ice resurfacing typically done before the final two groups?
