No. You forgot about new rules that ISU will implement next season. Low BV for quads and -5 Goes for falls. So.. yeah.. poor Trusova :scratch2:

So if you skate one year not so well at nationals there is no chance to redeem yourself and judges may forever bury you in the ranks? Why should last year’s results / skating be taken into account for this year’s judging? And it’s not as if Konstantinova has presented herself as a superstable skater compared to Gubanova. I don’t see your point at all? Except the personal preference of course. :rolleye:

It's not completely correct. Right version would be "she would be mushroomed" -- judges will inflate her PCS dramatically. "To mushroom" or "to fungus" - is artificial verb made from noun mushroom in Russian which usually used because saying "she would be given many mushrooms" is too long.. Which most likely related in meaning to either tendency of unnoticed growth of something big and dirty like weed/mushrooms/fungus, or to habit of gathering mushrooms when you walk through forest picking them and putting them in basket on the way, or both. Also mushrooms as noun there indeed means these extra bonus points due to favoritism/reputation/corruption of judges. But it never had meaning like "being on mushrooms" in a sense of eating them/being in state of altered conciousness etc. and this slang word is never used in relation to judges - it applicable only to skaters.

I thought it was created when the judges’ marks were not reflective of what the skater did, so someone indicated that the judges must have had some magic mushrooms (i.e. are feeling high and therefore not quite in touch with reality. So it is the judges who are on mushrooms, not the skater). Magic mushrooms are drugs that make you hallucinate.

Be that as it may - my version is closer to reality since I am actually russian myself and I know the language at least ;) For example Kostner some russians calls as Gribostner (word Гриб - Grib or Greeb - means mushroom) or Mushroomstner if I try to reflect it in English (similar to Flutzgenia here) - implying her tendency to get lots of PCS scores even with meltdowns. As you can see that nickname wouldn't be possible if that word was directed at judges. And it never was, in fact. It applies only to skaters - always. How it can be skaters fault (being on mushrooms) in getting inflated scores? ) So, your understanding of this word is wrong.

I think Pippuripihvi was referring to Gubanova not getting last season's JWC because she was 7th at Jr Nats last year. But anyway, this situation is really begging for a "body-of-work" criteria similar to what USFS had, to be applied. It would not have helped Gubanova last season, but would certainly help her now in a narrow 4th place.

I do really hope they would choose Gubanova over Konstantinova for JWC. I love Stasya's skating but she shouldn't be going to JWC when she's basically a senior skater. I just hope people can express their opinions and preferences without nitpicking and smashing other skaters.

No one says that the skate is on mushrooms. The skater is blamed for benefitting from the judges being on magic mushroom. You may speak the language, but I recall being around when it was asked on TV whether the judges are on something. (By the way, I speak the language too).
 
This old wonderful woman just follows her heart, it would be pathetic if she will care about what other people think and will change her mind because of that. So only double respect her for that. I can see what she likes in Konstantinova. She just forgot that it was a junior competition, not a senior. Praising for the 17 yo mature skater who beats very talented 13-15 yo girls - this is nonsense. I have just one problem with Stasya, what the hell she is still doing in juniors. I hope she'll refuse JWC invitation and will go to the Senior Worlds instead of Sotskova. That would be interesting. I remember the season when Pogorilaya were messing up at every competition and then shot out at Worlds 2016. Instead of Sotskova because I hope both Medvedeva and Zagitova will go there; for Zhenya it will be a chance to become a three-time World champion, or for Alina to become the second lady in history after Zhenya, who won Senior Worlds just right after Juniors.
