Karne, I realize it's July but, it's not a "normal" July. It's the July going into the Olympics and I think it matters how these skaters look every time they go out. As a former Judge, I know that judges look at scores and results from event to event and sometimes they will contact each other and discuss what they've seen. It doesn't "really" matter at this early point in the season but, if he had landed even 1 quad, he would have put every US Man on notice that he was a serious threat.
Sure, but not at Milwaukee Open. It's a low-key summer competition.
At Glacier Falls (two weeks from now), there will be way more official eyeballs watching. Per this
document, there will be a monitoring camp for ISP athletes on July 30. Even if Jason doesn't do the session, that still means there will be USFS judges/officials/etc. who will be there.
As for giving the other U.S. men notice -- does it matter really? Jason had relatively little momentum leading up to the 2013-2014 season. He didn't do any of the Olympic media shoots and USFS had even asked his team whether Jason would stay junior internationally one more year. He still made the Olympic team because he did what he needed to do at the competitions that matter - GPs, Senior B's and Nationals. And he did the same thing at Broadmoor Open in 2013 -- a watered down, marked version of Riverdance -- I think he actually skipped a whole jumping pass IIRC.
Speaking of summer comps, we're in for an interesting two weeks!
