2017-18 State of U.S. Men's Figure Skating

Sorry about that::o: obviously I should just stick to posting in the Fan Fest, :laugh:thanks Mathman !

So, this is Jason's Olympic SP? I love the program but, I didn't see any quads. I assume he's waiting for "Real" GP events to start before he tries them in competition.

Read Tavi's post above...she outlined why he did the jumps he did.

mrrice, IT'S JULY! Good grief buddy, you know better than that!

After talking about Jason and his new programs, I started wondering how Adam Rippon is looking and feeling. Have their been reports on his new programs and his current training routine?

Karne, I realize it's July but, it's not a "normal" July. It's the July going into the Olympics and I think it matters how these skaters look every time they go out. As a former Judge, I know that judges look at scores and results from event to event and sometimes they will contact each other and discuss what they've seen. It doesn't "really" matter at this early point in the season but, if he had landed even 1 quad, he would have put every US Man on notice that he was a serious threat.

Sure, but not at Milwaukee Open. It's a low-key summer competition.

At Glacier Falls (two weeks from now), there will be way more official eyeballs watching. Per this document, there will be a monitoring camp for ISP athletes on July 30. Even if Jason doesn't do the session, that still means there will be USFS judges/officials/etc. who will be there.

As for giving the other U.S. men notice -- does it matter really? Jason had relatively little momentum leading up to the 2013-2014 season. He didn't do any of the Olympic media shoots and USFS had even asked his team whether Jason would stay junior internationally one more year. He still made the Olympic team because he did what he needed to do at the competitions that matter - GPs, Senior B's and Nationals. And he did the same thing at Broadmoor Open in 2013 -- a watered down, marked version of Riverdance -- I think he actually skipped a whole jumping pass IIRC.

Speaking of summer comps, we're in for an interesting two weeks!

Glacier Falls is one of the few times I think I live on the wrong coast.

Jason! Grant :agree:(although Pagliacci, Grant, no one can beat my first love's Pagliacci) ETA: Why did I think Grant was skating to Pagliacci? My bad! See next post)

And Sean Rabbit doing Tequila!!!!:dance3:

Worth the trip.....

Really cute interview with Grant Hochstein, where he talks about how he and Caroline rescued a stray kitten:luv17::luv17::luv17:

http://figureskatersonline.com/news...chstein-at-the-beginning-of-his-final-season/

and adorbs photo of Grant with said very tiny kitten....

And Grant is so self-aware, and has such a dry sense of humor, the interview is engaging. His long is to POTO, and he knows it's a warhorse, and says "Before you roll your eyes, " and explains why he's skating to it.

Although Grant, the SP to Your Song is also becoming a warhorse, and I will never understand why skaters don't use Elton John instead of that movie remake....... but he has a great explanation for that one too (why the song, not why the remake.:) )

The thing that stands out to me when I look at that list.......How bright the future looks for the US Men. From Jason Brown to the bottom of the list, they could be around until 2022.

I could see Timothy and Max sticking around until 2022 too.

I would be shocked if Max continued after this season. I believe Max is interested in pursuing a MBA and/orafter his skating is done. My gut feeling is that Max only stayed in skating after 2014 U.S. Nationals to pursue the 2018 Olympics.

That 2013-2014 season seemed horrid for Max - I can't see him having the heart to continue if he didn't make the 2018 team.

I'm not one for pointing out grammar as I am as big of an offender as there is but....Mrs P...."Here's are be"

You got to be grammar shaming me now, Sam?!

Just kidding.

I did correct the error. (Likely I was trying to decide between both words and forgot to take one out, lol).

Boy you guys are pinning me to the wall today. Thanks chuck, I'm editing it now.
