2017-2018 Programs by Discipline

I remember Aljona saying she regreted not having switched back to Schindler's List in 2010. I really do not care. They lost the Gold because of two technical mistakes and in 2014 the judges were not fair.

I think Aljona AND Bruno want the Gold. But she is not that stubborn anymore. Btw she chosed a new partner who would go with her till 2022.

Yes, pretty much my thoughts for a long time... V/T definietly deserved the Gold, but I had the feeling the judges were not willing to hand it to S/S in any case. The gap after the SP was too big in my opinion. And had the games not been in Russia, I think S/S would even finish second even with the mistakes they did.

Savchenko & Szolkowy should have chucked the axel, IMO. And should definitely have gone to Europeans and taken care of V&T there. They'd have gone into the Olympics with much stronger momentum. But . . . who knew?

S/S went to Euros and skated the SP this year. But Aljona got ill on her 30th Birthday and they could not compete at the Free. V/T skate was shocking bad. Nevertheless the judges gave them 73 PCS.

S/S should have competed in the Team Event in Sochi to present their Pink Panter SP. But the did not.

Unfortunately I don't think they could have done anything at all to win. V/T won fair and square, but those absurd scores they received all season long meant S/S had no chance at winning, no matter what.

I assumed her to retire after the 2018 Olympics because she is already 33 years old. One more quadrennial cycle would be physically really difficult for her body at the age of 38 when the 2022 Olympics will be held in China, home soil for the Chinese. The gold at PyeongChang is not set in stone and is wildly open to the top contenders however. Either Savchenko/Massot or Yu/Zhang (though their practical position will be a bronze at 2018) would not win the gold at 2018, suppose that the two teams compete until 2022. Zhang will be 40 or 36 by the time when he competes at home.

I personally hope that Savchenko happily retires in 2018 with two amazing programs. Bruno can find a good partner afterwards as he has established a good career with Aliona and has shown what he is capable of.

I want to say first and without qualification that what Aliona chooses to do is up to her, assuming she can physically do it, and I support her whatever she decides. However, if she really keeps going to 2022 it would also mean sacrificing a personal life to some degree for much longer than most athletes do. Particularly, while she certainly may not want children and if not, good for her (and I mean that sincerely) 38 is a somewhat risky age to wait until to start trying if this is something that is on her radar at all. Certainly people do have kids at that age and after, especially nowadays, but unlike a 28 year old (or indeed even a 34 year old) it's no longer hugely statistically probable that you'll be able to get pregnant on your own within a year by then. Many people who try at that age still do, particularly if they can afford/access help, (maybe even most) but your fertility really has begun to drop off steeply by then. Again, this might not be on her radar at all, and if not, good for her, certainly not everyone does want or need a 'traditional' family life, but if she does want to keep going until then really she might be limiting her options on that front.

Yeah, although the choices she makes about her life are literally none of my business, my mind still immediately went "babies" :hopelessness: :o: As you've said, she may not want children altogether, and adoption is always an option, but it may be slightly more difficult to have children if she wants to later on in life.

For a sport that has equal opportunities for men and women, even having disciplines where both genders skate together, as far as family life and especially children are concerned it really is easier for men. Women either have to sacrifice having a family for a while for the sport, or sacrifice their skating career (coming back after a baby is possible, but incredibly difficult). For the men it's... slightly less problematic  But I guess that goes for others sports (and careers in general) as well :confused2: :)

Well I don't expect a "simple" mambo on a "simple" song, they might get us a remix like this year when they annouced sinatra and came up with Jay-Z...
But it is mambo. Niceee !

Yeah, I can see them using a "remastered" or "remixed" version for their faster piece (assuming all of their pieces will be Perez Prado) that sounds a bit more modern similar to the beefed up version of "Que Rico El Mambo" that Daisuke used in the second half of his 2010-2011 SP.

Delobel comes across my mind first. Had she not gotten pregnant, the Vancouver OGM could've been in her and Schoenfelder's hand. She said she had no regret nor remorse about her decision and her son is a blessing, but her long career and the dance field could've been very different.

Anyway, I hope Savchenko and Massot make a wise decision on their programs next season (no more tears please at Olympics), so they can respectively have plenty of time to "live happily after".

Shibs with a Remixed mambo??? I don´t know . I hope they won´t modify it much.

I know it's been talked about, but this is the first time I have seen it confirmed by Adam; he is keeping the "Broken Bird" LP. He is working on a new SP.

Article also talks about his recovery and training, pretty interesting. I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of the Broken Bird, but so many others are, so maybe it is the right choice for him.:confused2:
