2017-2018 Programs by Discipline

Word of the street that Takahito Mura skated to his short program to Alex Clare's Too Close during a recent show. https://youtu.be/zP50Ewh31E4

Very good choice for him. Modern and powerful, should suit his staking style nicely! Also a welcome reprieves from all the warhorses of team Japan.

There should be a video for all of us to watch soon!

Massimo Scali is the choreographer. I think it's going to be great!

This is great. Still, while I do understand why you added flamenco and Rachmaninoff, technically neither all flamenco music, nor every piece by Rachmaninoff can't be a warhorse in itself. It has to be specific flamenco music that has been used a lot or a specific Rachmaninoff piece, also used a lot, as there is a lot of flamenco music and a lot of pieces that Rachmaninoff composed. Theoretically, someone could choose a not so well known flamenco piece that has not been used in figure skating before, or a previously unused or little used Rachmaninoff piece. And then we would not be able to truly say that it's a warhorse, as flamenco music is just one of the music genres, just like pop, rock, blues, jazz or classical music (in a wider sense), and not all Rachmaninoff is the same. But, again, I understand why you did what you did here. A lot of skaters use flamenco music, and, I suppose, to many people it does sound all the same or at least very similar, and usually it makes for programs that are very similar in style + often those skaters/ their choreographers/coaches choose several flamenco pieces for their program, so it's difficult to say which particular piece is the main flamenco warhorse. As for Rachmaninoff, unfortunately there are just a couple of pieces that skaters usually use, but to name "all" two or three of them would take up too space.

Rachmaninoff :

concerto for piano no 2
variations on a theme by paganini....

the rest, even concerto 3, i wouldn't consider a warhorse.

Well, what you've seen there is not the case most of the time in a majority of the skating world. When one is elite, you do what you have to do, so yes I've had to pay several thousands of dollars multiple times for some of the best choreography, that's how it works. YMMV.
Of course if you're rich you will pay whatever you want. But I don't assume Max Aaron is that rich.

Yes, Rachmaninoff is used in the Bingo mostly as indicative of the more well known pieces of his that get used a lot in FS, like Concerto no. 2. But typing that would take up a lot more of the square than I had, so just 'Rachmaninoff' had to be. I do agree with your points about Flamenco, so I ended up replacing it for another well known warhorse (Concierto de Aranjuez), which didn't change the Bingo stamps at all since someone is already doing it too.

This is the current warhorse bingo I made.

Edited to replace Flamenco with another warhorse, due to feedback. This Bingo must be as accurate as possible!

:laugh2: Such genius!!! Meme of the month.

The only thing I'd swap is Rachmaninoff (composer) with Moulin Rouge (although Tango De Roxanne is already listed.) or Miss Saigon.

As for Karen's war horse choices, well it is the Olympic Season... let's wait and see. There is always value to add to a classic if you can bring something new and unexpected like Tessa and Scott has done.

It should be less about what you do, but how you do it.

While browsing through these pages, I saw how people kept talking about Warhorses.

Could someone please let me know what that means exactly?

Is it a piece that has been done many times before, like Carmen, or is it a heavy piece, or....?

I think so too. If anyone is going to skate to Carmen, I think Gabby is one who could do a very good job with it. She can be feisty & fierce.:)
I hope she can use some different part that's not the usual parts often used.

These are great - wow I am excited to see them! I really enjoyed Loena's skating last season and found her to be a breath of fresh air. Anyone know who choreographed these?

She didn't say but if we go by history either Sandy Suy or Adam Solya.
